Senators Swap AHL Defensemen

Patrick Mullen in exchange for Conor Allen

Ottawa Senators made a move in swapping a pair of defenseman as Patrick Mullen was traded for Conor Allen of the Nashville Predators, announced earlier today.

Mullen had played in all 36 games for the Binghamton Senators, recording 1 goal, 15 assists and a -5, and saw some time on the power play. He was a very skilled offensive player with accurate passing but a big defensive liability in creating many turnovers. He was originally acquired in a trade with the Utica Comets back in March of 2014 and re-signed over the off season.

Allen played in 31 games for the Milwaukee Admirals this season, registering 1 goal and 5 assists, and also was a -5. The 25-year-old native of Chicago is listed at 6' 2" 208 lbs, a big difference vs Mullen at 5' 11" 186 lbs. I don't know much more about him having never seen him play, but we shall see how he fits into Luke Richardson's line-up beginning with two games coming up this weekend.

Both players are on two-way deals and it appears to be a pretty even swap giving both some new scenery. As the season nears the halfway point, Binghamton is making a run having gone 8-2-0-1 over their last 11 games with the playoffs in sight being just 8 points out.
