2016 Memorial Cup: All You Need To Know
Here's how and why to watch this year's Memorial Cup
The Memorial Cup, the biggest junior hockey championship in Canada, begins tonight at 8 p.m. Here's all you need to know about the tournament:
When: 8 p.m. tonight, and then either 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. every day until the final on May 29th (full schedule here)
How to watch: All games will be broadcast on either Sportsnet or Sportsnet 360
Who's playing:
Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL winners)
London Knights (OHL winners)
Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL winners)
Red Deer Rebels (host - lost to Brandon in the WHL Eastern Conference finals)
Why should a Sens fan care?
The Senators have two key prospects captaining their teams into the the Memorial Cup: Francis Perron of the Huskies, and the newly-signed Macoy Erkamps of the Wheat Kings. For many Sens fans who don't get to watch out-of-province junior hockey very much, this will be the first chance to watch these prospects play. 50% odds of having a Sens prospect get to hold the Memorial Cup first seems pretty good to me. It was definitely fun watching current Maple Leafs prospect Tobias Lindberg win the trophy last year, and Curtis Lazar the year before that. Here's hoping this year's crew can keep the streak alive.
