The Ottawa Senators have called up defenseman Michael Kostka from Binghamton.

Kostka's recall is consequence to an injury Patrick Wiercioch sustained on Thursday night when Columbus Blue Jackets forward and former Ottawa Senator Nick Foligno laid him out, catching a great deal of Wiercioch's head.

Wiercioch's injury is said to be head related; most likely a concussion, but hopefully not.

It looks like the 25-year-old may be out long term.

And Kostka might not be the only AHL defenseman we see called up in the next little while, especially with the Senators road trip quickly approaching.

Kostka has had himself quite an impressive start to the year. In Binghamton, he's currently the team leader in plus/minus with a rating of +9 , and is second in scoring for defensemen with 1 goal and 5 assists in 13 games, only behind Patrick Mullen.

The Senators have had their fair share of head injuries this year. Clarke MacArthur and Andrew Hammond are currently out long term with concussions, and with more information coming soon, we might be adding Wiercioch to that list.
