This is the last day before Senators hockey returns! We're celebrating by engaging in the favourite past time of many: line-up speculation! Simply share with us in the comment section your ideal line-up and what you think Paul MacLean's line-up is (Marc Methot is on IR for the sake of this exercise).
My ideal line-up
Clarke MacArthur - Kyle Turris - Bobby Ryan
Mike Hoffman - Mika Zibanejad - Mark Stone
Curtis Lazar - David Legwand - Alex Chiasson
Milan Michalek - Zack Smith - Erik Condra
Spares: Colin Greening, Chris Neil
Patrick Wiercioch - Erik Karlsson
Jared Cowen - Cody Ceci
Chris Phillips - Eric Gryba
Spare: Mark Borowiecki
Back-up: Craig Anderson
This line-up allows me to keep the potent first line together and creates a second line that is capable of reliable offensive production despite its relative youth and inexperience. I really like a third line featuring Lazar and Chiasson. Both players have expectations and a little bit of pressure coming into this season. Transitioning to Ottawa on the third line makes sense to me. While I question the value of veterans in "teacher" roles, I think David Legwand can actually play that kind of mentoring role to Lazar and help smooth Lazar's eventual move to his natural position. Fourth line is guys who didn't fit elsewhere and aren't Greening or Neil.
On the blue line the Sens are incredibly thin without Methot. Ideally, I'd like to leave Phillips off, but when my options are Phillips or Borowiecki I want Phillips. Boro's not reliable and fights too much and playing five defensemen when it's just Karlsson-Wierioch-Ceci-Phillips isn't inspiring. Get healthy, Marc. Make a trade, Bryan.
