Stephane Da Costa's replacement is in, and it's... Derek Grant?
Many, including myself, were expecting to see Mika Zibanejad's name on the inevitable recall announcement, but the team's press release makes it clear what skill the Senators were looking for in Da Costa's replacement:
Grant, 23, has recorded two goals (one shorthanded) and five penalty minutes in three games with the B-Sens this season. The 6-3, 206-pound native of Abbotsford, B.C., was held pointless in five National Hockey League games last season. He scored 19 goals (including a league-leading five shorthanded markers) and 28 points in 63 AHL regular-season games in 2012-13.
So... clearly the team plans to address their horrid penalty pace not with more disciplined play, but with more shorthanded goals.
