OHL Western Conference Coaches Poll: Trocheck rocks, basically.

Vince Trocheck ranked first in faceoffs, second in shootout shooters (probably based on reputation, as he's gone 1-for-5 this year, but was 5-for-10 last year and 3-for-5 the year before), and third for "most dangerous in the goal area" by the coaches. I think he should maybe have gotten a few more mentions, especially for defensive forward and penalty killer (hello league leader in shorthanded goals), but three is obviously not bad at all and Plymouth has a ton of guys to put up for these things.

OHL Tabs Karmanos For Distinguished Service Award

Peter Karmanos Jr., owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, will be given the Bill Long Award by the Ontario Hockey League for his contributions to the league. Karmanos has been an OHL owner for 26 years, most recently with the Plymouth Whalers. The award is given to "an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the OHL." Karmanos, who will be honored at the league's annual award ceremony June 9 in Toronto, is the 16th person to receive the award since its inception in 1989 and the first American.

Panthers sign center A.J. Jenks

From the Sun-Sentinel: The captain of the (OHL's Plymouth) Whalers, Jenks was second on the team this past season in goals (23), assists (40) and points (63) in 52 regular season games (4 goals, 8 assists in 9 playoff games). The only teammate with more goals, assists and points: fellow center Tyler Seguin, who’s rated the No. 1 overall prospect by NHL Central Scouting and is expected to go in the top two picks of this year’s draft.
