I am not gloating at all, but I thought this was darn funny.
The Ottawa Senators made their first round of cuts today, sending Mark Stone, Matt Puempel, Stefan Noesen, Jakub Culek, and Jordan Fransoo back to their CHL teams. Goalie Matej Matchovsky was also released from his amateur tryout.
The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have signed forward prospect Mark Stone to an entry-level contract. Stone spent last season in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings, where he posted 106 points. He finished third in league scoring.

Ottawa puts David Hale on waivers.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) October 5, 2010
TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on Twitter this morning that the Ottawa Senators have put defenceman David Hale on waivers. If he clears waivers, as of right now it is unclear whether Hale will remain in Ottawa or be sent to Binghamton. With Filip Kuba still injured, this would leave the Senators with six defencemen on the roster for opening night: Chris Phillips, Sergei Gonchar, Erik Karlsson, Chris Campoli, Matt Carkner, and Brian Lee. It is also worth noting that the Senators' official site lists both Hale and Derek Smith on the team roster, although D. Smith was sent to the AHL on Saturday.
The Ottawa Senators announced their final roster cuts during this evening's game against the New York Rangers. Jared Cowen, the 9th-overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, was returned to the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. The other cuts see Robin Lehner, Patrick Wiercioch, Derek Smith, Cody Bass, Bobby Butler, Ryan Keller, Francis Lessard and Corey Locke being sent to Binghamton in the AHL.
