Senators trade Nick Foligno to Columbus for Marc Methot


Per TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Ottawa Senators have traded Nick Foligno to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenceman Marc Methot. Methot, 6'3" and 225 lbs, is an Ottawa native who has drafted 168th in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent his entire career with Columbus.

Senators make first round of cuts


The Ottawa Senators made their first round of cuts today, sending Mark Stone, Matt Puempel, Stefan Noesen, Jakub Culek, and Jordan Fransoo back to their CHL teams. Goalie Matej Matchovsky was also released from his amateur tryout.

Senators sign Mark Stone to entry-level contract


The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have signed forward prospect Mark Stone to an entry-level contract. Stone spent last season in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings, where he posted 106 points. He finished third in league scoring.

Senators recall Mike Brodeur on emergency basis... again


The Ottawa Senators have recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur on emergency basis to backup Brian Elliott tonight. It's the sixth time this season Brodeur has been recalled.

Ottawa sends Corey Locke back to Binghamton


Per Jeff Marek and Ian Mendes on Twitter, Senators forward Corey Locke has been returned to Binghamton of the American Hockey League. In three games this season, Locke had zero goals and one assist. His .33 per game point percentage currently ranks 10th on the Ottawa Senators.

Defenceman David Hale put on waivers


TSN's Bob McKenzie reported on Twitter this morning that the Ottawa Senators have put defenceman David Hale on waivers. If he clears waivers, as of right now it is unclear whether Hale will remain in Ottawa or be sent to Binghamton. With Filip Kuba still injured, this would leave the Senators with six defencemen on the roster for opening night: Chris Phillips, Sergei Gonchar, Erik Karlsson, Chris Campoli, Matt Carkner, and Brian Lee. It is also worth noting that the Senators' official site lists both Hale and Derek Smith on the team roster, although D. Smith was sent to the AHL on Saturday.

Senators make final roster cuts, Cowen returned to Spokane


The Ottawa Senators announced their final roster cuts during this evening's game against the New York Rangers. Jared Cowen, the 9th-overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, was returned to the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. The other cuts see Robin Lehner, Patrick Wiercioch, Derek Smith, Cody Bass, Bobby Butler, Ryan Keller, Francis Lessard and Corey Locke being sent to Binghamton in the AHL.

Senators announce training camp roster


The Ottawa Senators have released their training camp roster, which you can find at the above link. On-ice sessions begin at Scotiabank Place this Saturday.

Penguins defenseman Alex Grant released from hospital


Alex Grant, as you may recall, was taken off the ice on a stretcher after being brutally checked from behind by Ottawa Senators forward David Dziurzynski just 2:22 into yesterday's rookie tournament game. Grant suffered a broken wrist and whiplash, but thankfully no other serious damage.

CBC to air 10 AHL games, only one Binghamton game


CBC Sports has teamed up with the AHL to broadcast 10 games, each featuring two affiliates of Canadian NHL teams. The first game will be on Sunday, October 17 at 1pm ET between the Binghamton Senators and Toronto Marlies. Each Canadian NHL team will have its AHL affiliate featured. Both Binghamton (Ottawa) and Oklahoma City (Edmonton) will appear only once, while the Toronto Marlies will be shown seven times.
