"I"m not holding any grudges ... [and] when you see Dany Heatley as the guy coming back, you realize he’s a 50-goal scorer and they have to give up assets to get him," said [Andrew] Cogliano.
"In a way, it’s flattering, but there’s a part of me that was disappointed — I want to be an Oiler. It just made me stronger and it’s good motivation too.
"I’m a guy who has some worth in the league and I have to prove it now."
--Edmonton Oilers forward Andrew Cogliano, on being mentioned in trade talks for Dany Heatley (National Post)
"I talked to Cogs ([Andrew] Cogliano) and he was devastated," [Ladislav] Smid said. "It was just weird to see our names out there. Usually someone calls you and tells you that you got traded. But sitting there and not knowing whether you got traded or not is different. It took a really long time, it took almost a month before Heatley decided whether he was going to come to another team."
-Ladislav Smid, on being in limbo for a bajillion days (or so) while waiting for Dany Heatley to make up his mind.
"We would obviously prefer to get this [discussion of Heatley-Gate] out of the way as quickly as possible," André Brin, Hockey Canada's manager of communications, said Monday. "We'll see what happens over the next couple of days, but once the camp starts, we want to worry about the camp. At some point, (Heatley) has to be available."
"It’s so surprising. I thought we were a team that had kind of turned things around and were going in the right direction. We underachieved all year...and we could see a lot of positive signs going forward — maybe try and reach the playoffs next season and go far in the playoffs. Dany, obviously, was a huge part of our success before and I thought would be going foward as well."
