Derek Smith signs with Flames

The exodus from Binghamton continued today as defenseman Derek Smith signed a two-way deal with the Calgary Flames. Smith had 54 points in 71 regular season games, good for fourth among AHL blueliners.

Senators recall Mike Brodeur on emergency basis... again

The Ottawa Senators have recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur on emergency basis to backup Brian Elliott tonight. It's the sixth time this season Brodeur has been recalled.

Ottawa sends Corey Locke back to Binghamton

Per Jeff Marek and Ian Mendes on Twitter, Senators forward Corey Locke has been returned to Binghamton of the American Hockey League. In three games this season, Locke had zero goals and one assist. His .33 per game point percentage currently ranks 10th on the Ottawa Senators.

Butler re-assigned back to Binghamton

After a few games up with the Senators, Bobby Butler has been re-assigned to the AHL Binghamton Senators. I'm still unsure as to what was expected from him in Ottawa, but now he'll get the opportunity to continue developing his game in the AHL.

Z. Smith assigned to Binghamton

His goals weren't enough to keep Zack Smith in the lineup now that Milan Michalek appears ready to return to the lineup after giving his knee a few days to recover. Cap constraints lead me to believe that Z. Smith is going to become very familiar with the roads from Ottawa to Binghamton and back.

G Mike Brodeur, D Andre Benoit placed on waivers

TSN reports that goaltender Mike Brodeur and defenceman Andre Benoit have been placed on waivers. Unless they're picked up by another NHL squad, expect the two to be assigned to Binghamton.

CBC to air 10 AHL games, only one Binghamton game

CBC Sports has teamed up with the AHL to broadcast 10 games, each featuring two affiliates of Canadian NHL teams. The first game will be on Sunday, October 17 at 1pm ET between the Binghamton Senators and Toronto Marlies. Each Canadian NHL team will have its AHL affiliate featured. Both Binghamton (Ottawa) and Oklahoma City (Edmonton) will appear only once, while the Toronto Marlies will be shown seven times.

Kurt Kleinendorst named new coach of Binghamton Senators

Kurt Kleinendorst spent the last season as the head coach of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program’s under-18 team, where he won the gold at the IIHF U-18 World Hockey Championship in Belarus. He also has an awesome name!

Ottawa Senators re-sign Geoff Kinrade

The Ottawa Senators re-signed defenceman Geoff Kinrade to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday. Kinrade played all of last season with Binghamton, scoring 27P (7G and 20A) in 76GP. With Kinrade, David Hale, Derek Smith, Patrick Wiercioch, Eric Gryba, and Craig Schira as their apparent top six, the B-Sens' defence looks pretty strong for next year.
