Around SBN: How Will Spurs Respond to James Anderson's Trade Request?

Satire

A quick thought on Alex Auld

Maclean_medium

Alex Auld has made a career out of being a solid back-up goalie. The last time Alex Auld wore a Senators uniform, he put up 16 wins with a .911 SV% and a GAA of 2.47. Last season with the Montreal Canadiens, he had a .914 SV% and a 2.64 GAA.

This year, Auld has started just 6 games, has only 1 win, and has a career-worst .875 SV% and 3.73 GAA. He's bound to start playing like his old self again -- let's just hope it happens soon.

A good start might be, well, giving him a few more starts. Craig Anderson leads the league in shots against, is second in the league in time on ice and second in starts among goalies. Paul MacLean has to ensure that he doesn't wear out his starter before the playoffs, as the Sens will definitely need Andy in top form should they extend their season into April.

Silver Seven Exclusive: True North's NHL Application

With the disappointing announcement yesterday of the Atlanta Thrashers' relocation to Winnipeg, we here at Silver Seven were curious how the True North group's bid was approved. Considering the disastrous fates inept owners like Jerry Moyes, Boots Del Baggio, and the Atlanta Spirit Group have caused for their teams, we wondered how the NHL determines who's fit to own a team. We reached out to our secret contact in the NHL offices, and were able to get our hands on the following document. Does the NHL perform its due diligence on future owners? We'll let you judge for yourselves.

The Best of Ask Anton: The Top 10 Anton24 comments

We miss you Anton. (Photo by Phillip MacCallum/Getty Images)

Anton24 may have left us and we don't know if he will return, but we can look back at some of his greatest comments that gave us such laughter! The following is a list of the top ten Anton24 comments as judged by me. We shall start from #10, working down to the best Anton comment ever. All Anton24 comments are in italics.

#10) On April 8, 2011, Anton tells us of Soviet greatness.

BobbyF: Hey Anton
What are your thoughts on Lenin Cat? I think he’s really awesome but I’m interested in what a proud Russian like yourself thinks of him.

Anton24: BobbyF, thanks for question.

Ha! Have not seen this. Cat is funny. Pictures are not. Pictures are proof West could not have survived Stalingrad of their own. Should be grateful man like Lenin forged real power in world. All wise people know Soviets saved world from mistakes of West. Appeasement. This is not way of man.

#9) On October 13, 2010, Anton tells me how Pascal Leclaire would fare in a staredown.

Adnan: Hi again Anton
I think Ovy found the teddy bear in overtime, very bad news.

Also, do you think Pascal can injure himself in a staredown?

Anton24: Adnan, thanks for question.

Is best question. You make me laugh. Potential. I will answer yes. Pascal has no staredown. Can see him losing to mirror. He is like seed of dandelion. Ha! Funny.

#8) On November 3, 2010, Anton tells us his Halloween costume.

Mark Parisi: Hi Anton
Did you dress up for Halloween?

Anton24: Mark Parisi, thanks for question.

Yes, went as bear. Trapped bear, wore bear, let bear go. Frightened many children. Spirit of Halloween.

In memory of competitive Ottawa Senators teams of days gone by...

With the Ottawa Senators loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last night, the ride is officially over: According to SportsClubStats, the Senators are officially eliminated from the 2011 NHL playoff race. Sure, we all saw it coming from a mile away, but the fact that it is now official, well, it comes with a certain level of finality.

With that in mind, we here at Silver Seven have composed a hymn of mourning, in memory of the competitive Senators squads of years gone by. But with some lights appearing at the end of this tunnel, in the form of key prospects and ample draft picks, we pray that this mournful tone is simply a temporary one.

(To the tune of 'Amazing Grace')

Amazing once, how sweet the sound
of puck on net, it's true
The only time we hear it now
Is when teams score on you

Through the Gerber years and Redden too,
Heatley's whiny trade request
We've gnashed our teeth and stuck with you
You repaid us with this mess

(Many more verses after the jump... )

Silver Seven Exclusive: Craig Anderson's "Welcome to Ottawa" pamphlet

Yesterday, Ottawa announced they had signed goaltender Craig Anderson to a 4-year contract worth $12.75M, meaning a cap hit of roughly $3.18M per season.  You can find our analysis here, but Anderson has only played 11 games with the team, so we were suspicious that he might not be as familiar with the franchise as he said he was.  Did Bryan Murray bait and switch our latest franchise goalie?  We were able to get our hands on the pamphlet the Sens GM gave to Anderson only after the contract had been signed, and we reprint it here for you to decide.

An application for the General Manager position from a fan (part two)

"I think Booth needs to get his head on straight and dump the reporter, don't you?"

Melnyk.

Sup.

In the coming days, you are going to see a lot of crap flying around here about who your next GM should be.  But I call it crap because we both know that's exactly what it is.  I'm sorry you'll have to wade through the punks and posers who think that they can do a job to actually reach someone who can do the job... namely, me.

Let's face it: You and I are men of action, and lies do not become us.

An application for the General Manager position from a fan (part one)

Dear Mr. Melnyk,

It has come to my attention that your Ottawa Senators are now 477 points out of the playoffs, and that GM Bryan Murray is in the final year of his contract. Your vote of complete confidence in management, coaching, and players - nay, your insistence that this team is ready to go 42-0 for the rest of the season - which is customary around this time of year, has been conspicuously absent from our hallowed halls of media, The Ottawa Sun and TGOR, bastions of sound thought and astute analysis that they be. Lastly, I saw that little turd burglar Pierre McGuire going through your garbage, so I know the time ripe to make my availability known.
