Bettman: Good idea. OK, has anyone seen Tiny Tim? Adorable little guy, looks so grownup in his big boy suit and his scrunched up angry wittle face…. Oh, there he is! Cory Clouston: This is degrading and I'm not doing it.

Down Goes Brown on the NHL Christmas Pageant, which--either despite or because of the Ottawa Senators-inspired hilarity--is surely among his best work.

"[Jason Spezza]’s a wimp. He doesn’t want to go in the corners. He wants easy points."

"I haven’t made too many mistakes like that this year and really taken it out of my game, but I got caught up in wanting to make the play. It happens. As a player when you’re creative, sometimes it happens and I’ve just got to learn from it and move forward and learn from it."

"I thought I had a good start to (the game) and I felt pretty good," said Lehner. "They just kept coming and I wasn’t able to make the game-changing save that we needed. I’ve just got to keep working."

Robin Lehner, on the Ottawa Senators rookie squad's 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.

Guess Garrioch will have to manufacture a new controversy to while the summer away. Here’s a few suggestions - Kovy is actually a Russian spy sent to Canada’s capital to infiltrate CSIS - Alfie fathers illegitimate triplets. Already have enough hockey sense not to make blind drop passes - Chris Campoli demands a trade to Metallurg Novokuznetsk - Sergei Gonchar already in Clouston's dog house after voicing his dislike for the colour salmon - Nick Foligno busted for indecent exposure at local grocery store - Mike Fisher pulls a Tony Romo and trades up to Jessica Simpson. "At no point did I ever demand a trade" [...] "I talked to Bryan and (said) I read the newspapers, I see every year there's trade talk about me. I just basically told him, if you want to move me, you can move me. Obviously, I had (a) no-trade clause coming up on July 1. I want to be here, but if he thinks it's best for the team for me not to be here, and the city, then he can move me. "He told me he wasn't going to move me, and to be honest, I was happy about it, because I like being here in Ottawa." Jason Spezza, speaking to the media from his annual charity golf tournament (from the Ottawa Sun).

"I think it’s a good organization. Karlsson seems to like being there and they’ve drafted some other young Swedes. I’ve seen (Senators captain) Daniel Alfredsson. He’s a big guy in Sweden and Ottawa, too. I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s a good team for play for (in the future)."

New Ottawa Senators defence prospect David Rundblad, on becoming a Senator.

"But it’s a story every day in Ottawa. It’s bigger then it should be. I’m not saying I’m not trading him, but my intent is not to trade him unless I get a really, really good offer."

Ten years ago, a selfish Russian superstar wanted more money from the Ottawa Senators. Alexei Yashin was traded out of town because his greed and personality did not fall in line with the values of our city. What we wanted was a Canadian-born centre to take Yashin's place; a guy who could produce at the same level as the Russian star, without the high drama; a player who was committed to our community for the long-term. We got him. And now we're ready to run him out of town.

Contrary to a report out of Canada late last month that suggested the Caps are going to target pending unrestricted free agent Anton Volchenkov this summer, two sources have told me that the team does not, in fact, plan to pursue the Ottawa blue liner. The Caps "are not going to make him an offer," one of the sources familiar with Washington's plans told me. Tarik El-Bashir, from the Washington Post's Capitals Insider blog.
