Old fashioned line brawl in Binghamton Senators 5-2 win over Adirondack Phantoms

The Binghamton Senators won 5-2 over the Adirondack Phantoms on Friday night, but the score wasn't the only thing worth writing home about--emotions boiled over late in the second and a line brawl ensued

Although I can't reveal too much about the Binghamton Senators' 5-2 win over the Adirondack Phantoms on Friday night, I can share the following video with you, featuring a line brawl between the two teams with Tyler Eckford, Dave Dziurzynski, and Derek Grant right in the middle of things:

You may recall similar past events between these two franchises, when Adirondack was in Philadelphia: The famous "Flying Goalie" bench-clearing brawl (featuring Brian McGrattan and Ray Emery) is an AHL classic.

For this fight, according to Grady Whittenburg in the video, the Phantoms started running goaltender Ben Bishop in the second period in an attempt to get Binghamton off their game and to claw back into it. Although it did get Bingo a little rambunctious (obviously), it didn't pay off for Adirondack as they lost the game, anyway. In the words of head coach Luke Richardson, as quoted in the Press & Sun Bulletin:

"They tried to play more physical to get back into the game and I thought we responded very well as a team," Richardson said.

"When you respond as a team sometimes that brings momentum to you, rather than take it away from you or intimidate you because you feel good about standing up for yourself but more importantly for your teammates."

(You can also watch more substantive highlights here.)

In more meaningful news, the B-Sens win was their second straight (they'd also win on Saturday, so they're on a three-game winning streak), so perhaps the team is hitting their stride. Considering both Mika Zibanejad and Mark Stone scored their first professional goals against Adirondack, there's reason to believe the team is starting to gel.
