The Senators are heading for Sweden next season

Sens will play the Avalanche in a “home and home” in Stockholm next season

It’s been a little while since Tom Anselmi let the news slip in his first press conference with the Sens, but it’s now official - the Ottawa Senators and the Colorado Avalanche will play a pair of games in Stockholm, Sweden next season.

It will be Ottawa’s second trip to Sweden. The last was in 2008, when they opened the season against the Penguins in Stockholm. This will mark Erik Karlsson’s first time playing in Sweden as a NHL player - though that 2008 Sens trip included a game against the newly drafted Karlsson and Frolunda HC. It’s not quite a hometown game for the captain, but it would be for Stockholm boys Fredrik Claesson and Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog.

Unlike the NHL’s previous trips to Europe, these games will be played in November. Games before have been either exhibition, pre-season, or season openers.

The Senators will apparently be offering travel packages for Adnan fans interested in making the trip.
