Game 11 preview: Buffalo Sabres @ Ottawa Senators

A preview of the game between the Ottawa Senators and the Buffalo Sabres on 5 November 2016.

Remember, remember the fifth of November. With that out of the way, the Ottawa Senators will look for their fourth straight win when they host the Buffalo Sabres tonight. The Senators have transformed from their early season run-and-gun ways to a somewhat boring but successful way. Excluding empty net goals, the Senators have scored a total of four goals and allowed a single goal during their three game winning streak.

Ottawa will make two changes to the lineup with Craig Anderson and Mark Stone returning for Mike Condon and Max McCormick. Here are the lines and pairings from Steve Lloyd.

Stone - Brassard - Ryan
Hoffman - Turris - Pyatt
Smith - Pageau - Dzingel
Puempel - Kelly - Neil

Methot - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Borowiecki - Claesson

Anderson (starter)
Condon

Some notes for tonight:

  • After 10 games, Ottawa is in second place in the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of the final playoff spot. It has been a soft schedule recently, but at 7-3-0 the Senators have to be delighted with their record.
  • After seven points in the first four games, Erik Karlsson has just two in the last six.
  • Mike Hoffman has scored in two of his last three games. He is 11th in the NHL with 39 shots, 13 more than the next closest Senator, Dion Phaneuf. Both of Hoffman's goals have been game winners.
  • The Sabres lost 2-1 at home to Toronto on Thursday. Former Senator Robin Lehner has had a strong start to the season so far with 92.2 save percentage in seven starts.
  • Ottawa has had 27 power plays so far this season, which is the second fewest in the NHL. They have been shorthanded 33 teams, which is the 11th fewest.
  • Mark Borowiecki's last point was an empty net bank shot goal on 16 January. His last point before that was on 14 October 2015.
  • Anderson is expected to stay with the team for a bit now, but obviously things can change on that front. Ottawa has already used four goaltenders in 10 games so far./
