Another year, another deadline! I look forward to the trade deadline each year, because roster management has always been one of my favourite parts of following sports. I used to simulate entire seasons of NHL video games just in order get to the trades, free agency, and drafting portions of the season (let's be honest, I still do that to this day).
This year, the Senators are sitting on the cusp of the playoff picture, with some valuable assets, veteran expiring contracts, and some holes in the lineup. The question remains, are we a seller? buyer? or do we stand pat?
Things I don't want to see
- Turris, Karlsson, MacArthur, Lehner, Ceci or Lazar traded
- Trading for a UFA
- Trading away a first or second round pick for someone with less than 3 years term on their contract
- Trading for someone with less than 3 years of term on their contract.
Things I do want to see
-Getting a solid veteran d-man with some term on his contract ( even if it's unsightly long) Targets: Alex Edler, Christian Ehrhoff
-Trading at least one of our top 9 forward in order to let Hoffman or Stone play full time on the team Candidates for trade: Michalek, Greening, Conacher
Make it happen BMGM, I hope you can satisfy these simple requests.
What do you want to see before this year's trade deadline?
