The Team Canada selections have been made; and, as with all such selections, there will always be some debate and discussion as to who should and should not have made the team. On the whole, I'm content with the selections Hockey Canada made, with very few exceptions.
However, I thought it could be fun to do a quick stats and opinion dig to see if Canada could field a Team Canada B in such a tournament, and even to speculate how such a TC "B" would do.
Without further ado, then, behold your Team Canada B:
Team Canada B
F: Joe Thornton, Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Martin St. Louis, Jordan Eberle, Logan Couture, Eric Staal, James Neal, Claude Giroux, Jeff Skinner, David Perron, Bryan Little, Kyle Turris, Clarke MacArthur
D: Brent Seabrook, Jason Garrison, Mike Green, Dan Boyle, Mark Giordano, Dion Phaneuf, Marc Methot, Andrew MacDonald
G: Josh Harding, Brian Elliott, Jonathan Bernier
Some notes on the team:
For how they are playing this season, this team is hugely better at the lending of goats than Team Canada A. The forward corps is definitely weaker, but by no means weak, consisting largely of top-3 players from around the NHL. The D corps is probably the biggest question mark, but even here there's a lot of firepower for the PP and some pretty talented shut-down guys. I'd take Team Canada B in a heartbeat over most current NHL rosters!
PS: Letang was omitted due to injury, before anyone asks.
