Canada's All-C Team

In honour of Derek Stepan's inclusion on the American Olympic team as their 5th centerman due to wanting depth at the position, I thought it would be kind of fun to flaunt Canada's insane depth down the middle.

Inclusion is based solely on Yahoo's positional eligibility (i.e., C are down the middle, with C/LW and C/RW on either side - they don't have to be currently playing both positions for their NHL club, but they've played both recently enough to be eligible for both) and rankings at each position are based on the scoring settings in the only fantasy league I'm participating in this year, and include this season only. Basically, if you don't like who's at what position, take it up with Yahoo, and if you don't like the rankings, take it up with my friend in New Jersey that set up the league's scoring, X player's performance this year, and/or any injuries they might have had that affected said performance.

For full disclosure, scoring is as follows: G: 3, A: 2, +/-: 1, PIM: 0.5, PPP: 1, SHP: 2, GWG: 1, SOG: 0.4, SOG: 0.4, FW: 0.5, FL: -0.5, HIT: 0.3, BLK: 0.3

LW-C-RW
Sharp-Crosby-Giroux
Benn-Bergeron-Johansen
Couture-Toews-Carter
Marleau-Getzlaf-Skinner
Vermette-Tavares-Seguin

The two names that immediately jump out are the inclusions of Vermette and Johansen. Vermette's having a great year with Phoenix, and I've limited myself positionally, so the fact that he's the 5th highest-rated C/LW isn't a huge shock. What really surprised me was Ryan Johansen lining up as my 2nd line RW, which is both a testament to how completely off my radar he's been in Columbus this year and the relative struggles of basically everyone else with C/RW eligibility.

As far as our middlemen here in Ottawa, Spezza ranks 7th among C-only Canadians in my league, but would line up as 2nd-line RW ahead of Johansen, Carter, Skinner, and Seguin. Turris is next in line in 8th down the middle, and would still be ahead of all my RWs other than Giroux. And lastly, Smith has actually out-produced Skinner and Seguin both under this league's format, courtesy of his hit count and PIMs, so any of Ottawa's 3 Canadian centers would have made this team were they eligible at RW.
