Jarome Iginla. The Calgary Flames version of Daniel Alfredsson. Superb on-ice leader and presence, dependable and hard working, shows up when he needs to and is a pillar in the community. Similar careers and similar numbers really. Alfie chose not to leave Ottawa (a couple times) but Jarome chose the other path this season. With a reasonably successful stint in Pittsburgh to closeout the season (11pts in 13gp) and, let's be honest, a great playoff run (12pts in 15gp) his name is almost the forgotten-one amongst free agents.
You can almost guarantee that David "I had a great year once" Clarkson will sign a massive deal (in Toronto for 5 years @ 5M) for ONE 30 goal year but my question is this. What would it take to get Jarome to sign in Ottawa? Would a 2 year deal at the same 5M be fair? Too much? Too little?
I, for one, would love to add him to the mix. He can slide right onto the 2nd line and also play 1st unit PP. He'd bring everything David Clarkson does but with much more offence and 'smarts'. Remember, this is a guy who's scored 30 goals not once, but 11 times (with 28 and 29 goal seasons to boot).
He's the perfect fit in both likely-salary and what he'd bring to the team plus his friggin' birthday is Canada Day?!?!
