It's the most wonderful time of the year.
Well, maybe not the *most* wonderful, but pretty darned wonderful even so.
I love Development Camp. Especially with the evolution of how it has been promoted and used, it's a great chance to get a first glimpse at some of the new prospects and compare their development to some of the known up-and-coming talent (such as Mika Zibanejad, Cory Conacher, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, to name three I saw in the video the Senators site posted earlier today).
I actually prefer following this camp over following free agency and all the attendant hullabaloo which goes with it, because with this camp it's mostly players under contract or on the radar for our team. There is no such guarantee with the free agents.
What I'm not sure of, and maybe some of you out in S7S land could help me with this, is whether or not performance at Development Camp has any bearing particularly on being invited (or not) to the main camp come September. I should think it might, but I'm guessing maybe not?
I'm thinking specifically that a number of the lads who are obligated to colleges, for instance, can't come to camp in the fall so this is simply a little glimpse of where they are at.
Anyway, enough blather. On with the drills, scrimmages, practices. On with the hockey!
