Paul MacLean nominated for Jack Adams Award again

USA TODAY Sports

For the second straight year, Paul MacLean guided the Ottawa Senators through an unexpectedly successful season--and once again this season, he'll be nominated for the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's best coach.

For the second consecutive season, Ottawa Senators coach Paul MacLean was named one of the three finalists for the 2013 Jack Adams Trophy. The other two finalists are Bruce Boudreau of the Anaheim Ducks and Joel Quenneville of the Chicago Blackhawks.

MacLean coached the Senators to a 25-17-6 record this season, good for seventh in the Eastern Conference, despite significant injuries to many of the team's top players. Somehow, he was able to integrate 14 first-year players--seven of whom played at least 10 games with the team--into the lineup, but remained highly competitive through the season.

Among the other finalists, Quenneville coached the Blackhawks to a President's Trophy title with just seven regulation losses this season. Bruce Boudreau guided the Ducks to a Pacific Division title and second-place in the Western Conference, a significant improvement from their 13th-place finish last season.

One the topic of last season, MacLean lost out to Ken Hitchcock of the St. Louis Blues for the 2012 award.
