The week ahead: Apr 8 to 14

The good news is that the results this week can't be any worse...

Game 39 - Senators at Lightning

You want a narrative? Here's your narrative. Oh, you want more? Fine.

After an impressive shutout to start his career with the Lightning, Bishop dropped back-to-back games over the weekend allowing 3 goals in each. Though it sounds like it was mostly shades of his last game in Ottawa where he was hung out to dry with little support.

Matt Carle is riding a 5 game point streak right now. Vincent Lecavalier has 3 points in 3 games since returning from injury. Steven Stamkos hasn't had any particular point streak going but is still maintaining over a point per game, as is Martin St. Louis.

Game 40 - Senators at Flyers

The Flyers are bad at 5-on-5 this season. They've got a for-against ratio of just 0.78, 28th in the league. But special teams... They rank 2nd in PP with 23.2%, and 6th in PK with 84.7%. Their faceoffs are miserable, winning only 47.9% of them - 2nd worst in the East. Despite being 12th in the Conference, they've got 4 players with more points than any player has had in a Sens uniform this year, and a 5th who matches that number.

Chris Mason has yet to be scored on in a Flyers jersey - but he's only played 20 minutes in relief of Ilya Bryzgalov in a game that was already a rout. Speaking of Bryzgalov, he's still posting below average numbers on the season.

Game 41 - Senators at Devils

It's the 2nd last back-to-back of the season!

Want to talk streaks? The Devils are 0-4-3 since losing Ilya Kovalchuk. Before Kovalchuk went down, Patrik Elias lead the team in points, but he has only increased that lead by 1 point in those 7 games. David Clarkson, 3rd on the team, has also only put up 1 point in the same stretch. 4th, Marek Zidlicky, has 1 point in 5. Adam Henrique has nothing in 8, and Travis Zajac 1 in 7. You have to go to 7th on the team, Steve Bernier, to find multiple points in the last 5 games. Everyone they've relied on for points is either injured or in a slump.

Martin Brodeur has been looking vulnerable down the stretch as well, putting in a solid performance against Boston and a respectable performance against Buffalo but sub-par showings in the other 5 games. He is also stuck at an appropriate 666 regular season wins.
