Alright, just gonna come out and say that for the league to "investigate" this incident for no more than like 3 hours is completely unsettling as a fan. As soon as the game ended there was word that the NHL wasn't going to take action, and it was confirmed by about 9 AM today on TSN. I can't help but feel at least a little pissed off that they didn't at least sit on this one for a day or two. Here is what we know:
- Matt 'no-talent infant brain' Cooke is a player with more priors, and more sick-to-your-stomach replays than anyone else in the NHL. He is known to act retarded on the ice and in life. He is considered a dangerous player. And this isn't even completely up to date...
- Our best player, by far and away, was targeted on the play. (Get well soon #65)
- Cooke brings his leg up in an unnatural way and comes down hard on the back of EK's ankle. I thought originally Cooke was trying to drive Karlsson's knee into the boards... but if anything we can agree this was a dangerous and awkward play to begin with.
- Cooke was not looking directly at the ankle. Contrary to what you might think, penguins fans and Matthew Barnaby, it is possible to control one's foot without looking.
If Pittsburgh is going to continue to employ this greaseball and promote this type of play, then don't be surprised when Crosby's neck gets cranked.
I've heard this one a lot: "if it was someone like James Neal, nobody would be this upset". But, hey, it wasn't James Neal. It was Matt Cooke, again. And it's hard not to feel like you've been punched in the gut.
Not satisfied.
