Who could have expected it?
Ottawa Senators goalies currently lead the NHL and AHL in save percentage and are top 1/top 5, respectively, in GAA.
Even if that level of leadership doesn't last all season, Sens fans finally have something to cheer about -- reliably -- in the crease. Goalies who can steal games and keep the team in it when the engines aren't firing on all cylinders. Goalies that don't have you sweating bullets every time an opposing sharpshooter comes careening down the wing.
Couple that with Ben Bishop and some decent prospects further down in the pool (WHL, etc.), and maybe the Sens organization will finally shake the "goalie graveyard" label.
And all this with minimal drama. Not to say there aren't personalities involved -- in fact, Lehner in particular is refreshingly colourful, honest, and feisty, and Anderson recently made a great chicken dinner crack on twitter -- but the three main goalies are being professional team players. Whether it's because they're finally patiently biding their time (Lehner) or recognize their future may ultimately lie elsewhere (Bishop), they're being good sports.
For a change, this is a nice goaltending problem to have: quality, depth, competition, and no side shows.
Let's hope it continues.
