Silver Nuggets: When Will We See Robin Lehner?

Put me in coach - Jen Fuller

Craig Anderson began the season with a shutout against the Buffalo Sabres and followed up his excellent start with solid performances against the Maple Leafs and Kings. While the season is almost two weeks old, the Senators light schedule has meant that Robin Lehner has not seen any action.

The Sens play back-to-back games this weekend: on Saturday night Ottawa plays the Sharks, who have started the season on fire and less than 24 hours later, the Senators play the Ducks (the attention around Bobby Ryan will only increase during his homecoming, especially with Jakob Silfverberg racking up goals). The weekend marks the beginning of an 8-day period in which the Senators play 5 games. Following their weekend matchups, the Sens play in Phoenix on Tuesday night, at home against the Devils on Thursday, and play a matinee affair against the Oilers next Saturday.

It makes sense that Robin Lehner will play at least one of these games. The most likely game? Sunday against the Ducks. With the Sharks setting the league on fire, MacLean is likely to go with his number one on Saturday night. A second game in less than a day seems to be an ideal scenario for Lehner to get some work. I can also see Lehner playing the Saturday matinee against the Oilers. Goaltenders are creatures of habit and matinee games are unusual (although the Sens do play more than their fair share of them). A 2 pm start might could be the perfect time to give Lehner his first start of the season on home ice.
