At some point during my morning boredom, I found myself trudging through the nonsense on HFboards and across the following trade proposal:
Milan Michalek, Mika Zibanejad, Mark Stone to Phoenix for Keith Yandle, Brandon Gormley, and a 2nd.
As I am want to do, I took a few minutes to consider the implications of the proposal and came to the conclusion that, while devoid of realism, the proposal definitely makes Ottawa stronger in the short term and any long term damage could he mitigated by a one or two high end fa signings ( Hello Mr. Perry. Paging Mr. Corey Perry to SBP).
Here's a peek at what Ottawa's roster would look like after a trade like this:
Greening - Spezza - Silfverberg
Latendresse - Turris - Alfredsson
Regin - Smith - Neil
Hoffman - O'Brien - Condra
Yandle - Karlsson
Methot - Gonchar
Phillips - Gormley
Anderson
Bishop
That lineup looks pretty impressive, if slightly less top heavy without Michalek's 35 goals in the lineup. The obvious issue created by a move of this nature is the massive hole it leaves in our prospect pool for high end forwards. Good drafting and smart asset managementcan make up for the loss of Zibanejad and Stone but that would likely take some years
