In My first post I talked about offense (Michalek and Kostitsyn) and what Ottawa could do to improve their offense. In this second post, I will be talking about defense and what we could do to improve it, since three of our top 4 defenseman are 34 and older (Phillips, Kuba, gonchar)
This year there are a few good defenseman that are available on the free agent market and I think Ottawa should try to sign one or two of them. First of all, Ottawa needs a good two-way defenseman with speed to replace Kuba, I think Matt Carle would be perfect for that. Second of all, I think they need a defenseman that is ready to block shots for the team and that can throw around the body, I believe Bryan Allen would be a perfect fit.
I think we should trade Sergei Gonchar and Nick Foligno together since their value is only going to regress from here on, since its really high, because of both their good seasons (37 and 47 points respectively). I think that if we put them together as a package, we could get a top-4 defenseman that could help the team very much. I have decided to make a list of possible suits for the trade:
I think all four could be had with a little fine tuning.
Post what you think would be best for the team in the comments.
