I've revamped my mock draft.
Barring any trades (which WILL happen) this is how I think they'll go down in the 1st round;
1 Yakupov (EDM) It's almost a rule; Gotta take the best player with #1 picks, regardless of the geography or "Russian Factor" when they're this good. Though, they may trade down and select and select one of the defense-heavy crop.
2 Forsberg (CLB) Scared of drafting Russian players now with Filatov and Zherdev being COMPLETE wastes of higher 1st round picks. Blue Jackets can't afford to miss out again and he's a safe pick. He'll play.
3 Galchenyuk (MTL) Habs need this guy regardless of injury history. Supposed to be fully healed.
4 Murray (NYI) Isles need a top D-man. Safest pick to fulfill potential in draft among d-men.
5 Dumba (TOR) Phaneuf JR. 'Nuff said....having said that, I could care less who the Leafs draft.
6 Teravainen (ANA) Saku....Teemu...Teuvo? Yup!
7 Faksa (MIN) Need secondary scoring. He may be ready after one more season.
8 Reilly (CAR) Canes will be super happy if he falls to 8th.
9 Grigorenko (WPG) This is the 1st amendment I am making. I originally had Pearson here, figuring they'd be scouting him quite regularly. Even though Grigorenko has plummeted down the rankings with a resounding THUD, the Jets need his scoring....The Russian factor is high in this one *Said with Yoda voice*
10 Trouba (TB) Will pair nicely with Hedman.
11 Reinhart (WSH) Originally I had Grigorenko slated here with the Caps... Though considered a "Two-way defenseman", I bet Reinhart will be a shutdown D-man at the NHL level. Washington needs that kind of player.
12 Girgensons (BUF) Team that NEEDS size up front.
13 Ceci (DAL) The Stars need defensive depth. Will form a nice 1-2 punch with Oleksiak.
14 Finn (CAL) TERRIBLE defensively last season as a team. Finn plays a very good all around game and has leadership qualities that all teams love.
15 Lindholm (OTT). Sens are NOT passing up this Swede to go with Karlsson, Alfie, Zibanejad, Claesson, Lehner and Petersson.... This was the original comment I had, but originally used it for Collberg haha
16 Maatta (WSH) Safest pick remaining. Had a great Memorial Cup.
17 Koekkoek (SJ) Boyle can't do it forever... Koekkoek was part of the massive line of guys that spent time on injured reserve lists in Junior hockey this past season. If he hadn't, he'd be a top 10 pick.
18 Bystrom (CHI) Still a couple years away and they're with this defensive line-up they can afford to wait on him.
19 Subban (TB) Even though they just traded for Lindback from Nashville, they STILL need goalies. Tokarski isn't developing as well as originally hoped... Athletic and competitive, but raw....he's gonna be a good one.
20 Wilson (PHI) Plays a Philly kind of game
21 Pouliot (BUF) They went with a forward at #12. They're picking a d-man with this pick.
22 Thrower (PIT) This team misses Scuderi and will draft Thrower. He has a no-holds-barred approach to the game and will do anything to win.
23 Gaunce (FLA) Size teams want. Like most power forward's, he's still a few years away and Tallon doesn't rush his draft picks.
24 Vasilevski (BOS) The B's now need a goaltender... Thanks a lot, Timmy!
25 Hertl (STL) Team already set up nicely on "d". They'll go for a forward.
26 Matheson (VAN) Two way d-man with some "snarl" to his game.
27 Skjei (PHX) Want to keep building through defence.
28 Jankowski (NYR) I have a funny feeling they're trading this pick but Jankowski put up massive numbers though it was against weaker competition.
29 Dansk (NJD) I can't BELIEVE they're making this pick! Should have just forfeited this one. But they do need a goalie. Good luck in 2013 and 2014, because giving up a lottery pick will certainly hurt a lot more than this years 29th pick, Lou.
30 Matteau (LA) Plays with an edge. Just like the Cup Champs.
NOTES;
I don't see Edmonton passing up a "homerun" in Yakupov for a "safe pick" in Murray. I just can't see a team draft for organizational needs (especially when there is such a difference in skill) with a 1st overall pick.
Toronto is going to draft the Phaneuf-like Matt Dumba. Anaheim is bringing in Teravainen to be mentored by Selanne (if he plays again) and Koivu.
I ORIGINALLY had a bad feeling Winnipeg was going to draft Tanner Pearson at #9. Just going by Chevaldayoff's 1st draft last year, he went off the charts to draft the Colts' Schiefele at 7... And where does Pearson play? Barrie. We already know that they scout Barrie pretty hard with former Colts Telegin, Burmistrov, Little and Scheifele. Yes, I know that ATL's scouting staff drafted half of them, but with Hawerchuk being Barrie's coach AND how much they watched Scheifele in Barrie this year they, no doubt, saw him play with Pearson.
Poll
If Edmonton does trade the 1st overall selection, which of the teams selecting in the top 5 will trade up.
