Ottawa Senators selections in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft is taking place this weekend in Pittsburgh, with round one on Friday and rounds two to seven on Saturday. Pending any trades between today and the draft, the Ottawa Senators will make seven selections over the course of the two days--fewer than the ten made last year, but still a good number that should bring some fairly good players into the fold, even if those players won't likely join the team for a couple of seasons.

Most of the picks are Ottawa's own, with the exception of their second-rounder (which was sent away in the Kyle Turris trade) and the Nashville Predators' third-rounder (acquired in the Mike Fisher trade).

It's hard to know what to expect in the draft; Bryan Murray's always been an unpredictable man on draft day. He's kept his options open, too, saying he could trade his first-round pick to move up or down. Maybe he'll trades picks for players, or players for picks. Perhaps he'll wrap up both third-round picks for a late second-rounder, if there's a player he's got his eye on. I do expect Murray and his crew to swing a deal or two, but right now I have no idea what they'll involve.
