I haven't been in Ottawa since June 6th, 2007. I had stayed in Ottawa for 5 days, to watch Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final live at Scotiabank Place, and Game 4 and 5 on the big screens near City Hall. Although it was bittersweet, the stamosphere, especially Game 3 at SBP, was absolutely amazing. It will be something that I will never compare to, and that playoff run in 2007 will never be matched until the Stanley Cup is brought to Bytown.
What is this all about? Well, as I mentioned, I haven't been in Ottawa since that 5-day sabbatical for the Final. Being a Kingston boy and cherishing every time we drove down to Ottawa, it's been a long time. Stuff has happened with our beloved Ottawa Senators
. The huge chunk of the 07 teams has left, and now the young guard is fusing in splendidly. But, this isn't the main point of this post.
It's the fact that this will be the first time that my 10-year old son comes to Ottawa. I thank God every day that he has chosen the light side of becoming an Ottawa Senators fan (I actually read somewhere that a big portion of Sens fans who are dads have kids who are Leaf fans and vice versa). He didn't come with me in 2007, but he watched every game of the playoff run that year. I can tell you his favourite player is Zack Smith
, I don't know why, but not a bad choice. He actually wrote an essay in school this year where the topic was "How can young adults make a society successful", and used the "young adults" for the Sens as an example. It was actually quite brilliant, but he got a 90%, likely would have been more if his Social teacher wasn't a Leafs fan. But he's longed to come to Ottawa, to take some sort of tour at SBP, to wear his Sens jersey proudly.
I'm also hoping that I can go down to some Sens-related activities if there are any during August (when I'll be there). An autograph sessions would be absolutely amazing. But all in all, I can't wait to smell the breath of a real rebuild (Rebuild my ass, Oilers
fans!). But truly, I don't want this just to get some tears. I'm just a happy Senators fan who has lived by this team, and hope my son does so as well. It'll be the best vacation ever, I can guarantee that.
PS: For some reason when I'm writing a post, the Visual View won't let me space the paragraphs. So sorry if you get a migrane here.
