I am a new writer on this blog, but have been a Sens fan my entire life. I decided to do an off-season post to start off. This will incorporate both names in the title.
I think Andrei Kostitsyn would be a great fit with the team.
Firstly, because he has tremendous skill, mostly speed and shot the two most important parts of a top-6 forward.
He’s a top 10 pick that wasn’t a flop, he’s got size, he’s relatively young and he’s an unrestricted free agent. Now I’m just speculating, but I don’t remember the last time you could get one of these for 3 million in free agency!
He’s been a consistent 20 goal, 20-25 assist guy:
As you can see he’s been getting 15 minutes a night on an average team that played a defensive style. If he was put on Ottawa’s second line, he would be getting about 18 minutes a night, bringing up his totals to 25 goals, 25-30 assists, exactly what Murray is looking for. He could be had for relatively cheap and maybe would accept a short-term contract.
Now let’s move on to subject number two, Milan Michalek. He’s been inconsistent, injury-prone and streaky. He’s proven that he isn’t a playoff performer and his passing skills are below average. However, he’s off a career year with 35 goals, 25 assists playing beside one of the best centers in the league. His stock is about at its all-time high (age, last season, etc.). This is why I want to trade him. Right now, the Sens would be looking for a young established top-6 player. Few players come to mind that fit that description, however I’ve made a list.
- Jamie Benn (23)
- Blake Wheeler +(26)
- Thomas Vanek (low chance)
- Jakub Voracek + (22)
Scott Gomez
Anyway, these are just some of my ideas; post a trade you would make between MM9 and one of the four players above in the comments.
