Heroes and Zeroes - End Regular Season

After all the games in the regular season, it is time to look at the final Hero-Zero count. We are lucky here on Silver Seven Sens to have some very astute authors who do an excellent job of observing individual game performance, and then recording it in the game recaps. Conveniently, they identify Heroes and Zeroes for each game. By compiling a list of all those players, we can get a pretty good indication of how well individuals have performed.

I have compiled a list of players and the number of times they were either named in recaps as Heroes and Zeroes, or had a very positive (or negative) mention in "Honourable Mention" or similar during the regular season games up to the final regular season game.

Name Hero Count Zero Count Difference (Hero - Zero)
Alfredsson 23 1 22
Anderson 28 8 20
Michalek 19 1 18
Karlsson 26 11 15
Spezza 18 6 12
Cowen 16 5 11
Phillips 13 3 10
Greening 11 1 10
Smith 10 1 9
Neil 11 3 8
Turris 10 2 8
Foligno 9 1 8
Gonchar 13 6 7
Condra 8 2 6
Kuba 9 4 5
Daugavins 7 2 5
Lehner 4 0 4
Bishop 4 1 3
Butler 6 4 2
Rundblad 5 3 2
O'Brien 2 0 2
Regin 2 0 2
Lee 2 1 1
Hoffman 1 0 1
Klinkhammer 1 0 1
Auld 3 3 0
Carkner 3 3 0
Gilroy 1 1 0
Winchester 1 1 0
DaCosta 3 4 -1
Filatov 0 1 -1
Zibanejad 0 1 -1
Konopka 1 5 -4

Since the half-season report, only a few changes are clear. Chris Neil has climbed significantly, probably reflecting his leadership role on the team. Alfredsson remains at the top, with the top line players also being highly rated. Note the very few players with no mentions as a zero - almost everyone has screwed up enough to be mentioned at least once. Finally, look at the standings of the various rookies and new players. Some are surprisingly good, particularly Cowen, Greening and Smith.

I will be away in Europe for the rest of the playoffs, but my son will update this table again at the end of the "second season".
