Heroes and Zeros at the Three-quarter Mark

Here we are at the three-quarters point in this season and it is time to look again at the Hero-Zero count. We are lucky here on Silver Seven Sens to have some very astute authors who do an excellent job of observing individual game performance, and then recording it in the game recaps. Conveniently, they identify Heroes and Zeroes for each game. By compiling a list of all those players, we can get a pretty good indication of how well individuals have performed.

I have compiled a list of players and the number of times they were either named in recaps as Heroes and Zeroes, or had a very positive (or negative) mention in "Honourable Mention" or similar during the regular season games up to 2012-Feb-22 (the Capitals game).

Name Hero Count Zero Count Difference (Hero - Zero)
Alfredsson 19 1 18
Anderson 24 7 17
Michalek 16 0 16
Karlsson 21 7 14
Spezza 16 5 11
Cowen 13 5 8
Gonchar 12 4 8
Phillips 11 3 8
Greening 9 1 8
Smith 9 1 8
Condra 8 0 8
Turris 7 0 7
Foligno 6 0 6
Kuba 8 3 5
Neil 7 2 5
Daugavins 6 2 4
Butler 6 4 2
Rundblad 5 3 2
O'Brien 2 0 2
Regin 2 0 2
Auld 3 2 1
Lee 2 1 1
Hoffman 1 0 1
Lehner 1 0 1
Carkner 2 2 1
Winchester 1 1 0
DaCosta 3 4 -1
Filatov 0 1 -1
Zibanejad 0 1 -1
Konopka 1 4 -3

There have been a few changes since the half-season report. While Alfredsson remains at the top, a few players have climbed significantly. Spezza is one, and Phillips is another. Note the players with no mentions as a zero - Michalek is the highest, but Condra, Turris, and Foligno are up there. Finally, look at the standings of the various rookies and new players. Some are surprisingly good.

I will update this table again at the end of the regular season and (hopefully) when we win the Cup!
