The Noon Number: 16
16 - The number of players aged 39 or more who've scored at least 20 goals in a season--including Daniel Alfredsson.
With Alfredsson's 20th goal last night against the Florida Panthers, he joins a list of such notable names as Gordie Howe, Jean Beliveau, Johnny Bucyk, Mark Messier, Brett Hull, and Ron Francis. Nine of the 16 players are in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and two are still active: Alfredsson and Teemu Selanne.
Alfredsson is on pace for 28 goals this season, but if he can score 30, he'd become just the fourth player aged 39 or older to score 30 or more goals. Selanne became the third just last season, and Howe and Bucyk are the other two.
The way things are going, Alfredsson might have another season in him after this one, too. If he can play as well as he is this season, the Senators will be begging him to come back for at least one more.

Conditioning
Kudos to his conditioning. To being able to play at such a high level, coming back from a serious injury last year, truly amazing!

the points are gravy
He’s doing so much more than just scoring. His leadership and mentoring of the young dudes is the real reason he’s here this year…the offence is just a sweet, sugary bonus.
The 'A' on Minnesotta Wild winger Dany Heatley's jersey does NOT stand for 'assistant'.
Kubina to Ottawa?
Please dear God, do not let this be the one trade rumor per year that Eklund actually gets right!!! Please, please please NO!
On a brighter note!
Atta boy to Alfie!
Common sense is the most evenly distributed quality in all the world.
Everyone thinks they have enough.
why so glum, chum
i actually think we could use a Kubina, Gill or Sutton-type player. We need some size and sandpaper on our back-end that’s a little more capable than Carkner. Kubina fits the bill nicely.
Ditto
I’m not sure I’d want to give up what it might take to get the deal done, but I’d love to get Kubina on board in Ottawa.

He's 35 years old
And based on the last couple of years would likely take a 2nd round pick to aquire (which I don’t think we have).
Also I think that Boroweicki will be able to fill that role next year.
+ He’s a UFA, so there are no guarantees that he would resign, meaning its just a rental player.
I’d rather have a Bryan Allen, Ladislav Smid, Greg Zanon, Milan Jurcina. They are all younger players and the fit is a bit better I think.

ok - now you're talking
I’d love to take a Smid but that’s going to take a real package to get (and I doubt the Oil part with him). I think its worth a shot (and Murray wanted him once before) but I doubt he’s available.

Soon the Oil will have nothing but top 10 picks on their team.
I don’t know how a team that talented can suck so hard.
Hell, they may get another first overall pick next year, at which point they then have to start talking to Eberle about extending his contract as his ELC is done..
That's pretty impressive, especially since we're only 60 games in.
If he hits 25 (or 30, as you suggest he could), he’d be in pretty elite company.
Co-manager, Silver Seven
It would definitely help his Hall of Fame case
