All-Star Fan Balloting results are in

And we were so, so close to having the full starting line-up. Alfie, Spezza and Michalek all blew past Kessel to take the 3 forward positions. Karlsson took the overall top position with just under 940,000 votes.

The only one left out was Gonchar - who ended up just over 11,000 behind Dion Phaneuf for the 2nd defense position.

Tim Thomas took the goalie spot.

The full list of results can be found here, and the NHL press release here.

Y'know...

I’m mostly just relieved that Reimer didn’t get voted in. There was an article yesterday on The Star.ca about how “Reimer needs your help to get in the All Star Game.” I was thinking, they can’t be serious! Even Sens Fans going for the clean sweep weren’t suggesting Andy for the game…

I didn't see it happening

Not after he lost the lead to Thomas last week.

And Reimer didn’t just miss… he missed by almost 130k votes.

Good show by the fans

Alfredsson had to be their as a Legacy vote,
but his recent play has gotten his numbers up with all-star calibre players.
There are going to be All Stars with similar numbers for sure.

Spezza and Karlsson, no brainers.
Michalek is borderline and debatable, but you know what, Cam Ward got in the game last year, and every year they bring people on to appease the hosts. Its for the fans anyway, and the local audience will cheer more loudly, and make a better atmosphere, for Michalek they they would Ericksson, Hartnell, Moulson, or whomever that Michalek would have replaced.

If only Anderson had a league average GAA and Save %, maybe we would have voted him in too!

Michalek has a 0.54 g/g pace, and was leading the league in goals before he was out

While there are a few players with better g/g paces, only Stamkos has a significantly better pace (0.71).

I wouldn’t consider him borderline at all.

Well in our eyes

he has merit, for sure, in the eyes of Sens fans.

In the eyes of others, there is only room for so many forwards (~24?). Michalek isn’t necessarily one of the top 24 forwards in the League. Its a League wide representation of the NHL’s best, or it should be.

Interesting take by Yahoo:

He is more deserving that Komisarek in 2008, but it will for sure be argued that he didn’t deserve it over x player who gets left off this year.

No complaints here. I would have wanted him picked, like Cam Ward was picked, to help appease the local fans. This way, there will be no question he’s there.

Damien Cox Twitter

1. So very Bitter
2. He wonders why his T.V time was significantly curbed.
3. Complains about a broken system that you know does not favor this outcome he whines about.

Damien Cox and Bill Simmons

both have had tweets showing that they clearly hate Ottawa fans. it’s fine on blogs, but on major city newspapers? it’s annoying..

also, many people are angry at this, but it reality, it IS a business and the city now has buzz and it’s just the starting 6 – the NHL scoring leaders, etc. will get put in by the NHL. no idea why everyone is complaining..

Gee, oddly enough they're complaining about Ottawa players, but no one's whining that the Leaf players are just as 'undeserving'.

Look, we all knew this was going to happen the minute Project Mayhem was announced and Puck Daddy was bloody-effing gleeful at that thought. Now that it sank faster than the Leafs in the standings, he’s going to bitch about hometown fans?

Give me an economy-sized break.

I really do hope this isn't used as another stick to beat the "Cancel the All Star Game Because It's A Farce!!!"

Although if it increases the value of my pin collection by the time I’m old and dead ….
