Team Alfredsson: Where the Ottawa Senators and Team Sweden collide

Daniel Alfredsson took a while to unite his teammates, but he eventually did what he could during 2012 NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft by selecting Erik Karlsson (1), Jason Spezza (2), and Milan Michalek (12). He also brought a number of his countrymen on board, with Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, and Alex Edler joining Alfredsson, Karlsson, and Henrik Lundqvist on the team. The lone exception for the Senators: Colin Greening and his rookie teammates were placed on Team Chara.

Alfredsson also picked most of the locally renowned talent, with local boy Claude Giroux, former Ottawa 67 Logan Couture and former Senator Brian Elliott on board. The only local connection on Team Chara (other than Zdeno Chara himself) is former Ottawa 67 Brian Campbell.

Fittingly, all three Maple Leafs are on the opposing squad, with Zdeno Chara and co-captain Joffrey Lupul bringing Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf into the fold on their team. The Boston Bruins were also on that squad, with Tim Thomas and Tyler Seguin joining Chara.

After the jump are the full All-Star Rosters, before rookie assignments:

Would`ve been more fun

To mix things up a little bit. It`s weird to have all those cliques.

I see your point

But for me part of the fun is seeing the NHL cliques play out.

It's totally a Battle of Ontario isn't it.

Fack. If Team Alfie doesn’t win I’ll never hear the end of it from my Leafs fan friends.

It’s okay, you can tell them we beat 3 out of 4 in the actual battle of Ontario.

I love soft players (especially Europeans) that play on the perimeter. Enigmas are awesome. Grit and heart-and-soul are red flags.

Yeah, they're too dense to get that.

BUT WE’LL BEAT YOU IN THE PLAYOFFS.

You haven’t MADE the playoffs since 2004. Get in, and then we’ll talk.

Kay.
It’d be nice to see the Leafs beat the Sens again.

Although we’ll see if the Sens make it too.

Wouldnt be like the good playoffs of the early 2000s without the Sens beating the Leafs in the regular season eh?

Yeah but Gustavsson and Reimer are not going to steal a playoff series. :P

I dunno, it could happen.

Gus shows he can magically have stretches of good hockey. This month for example, basically 4 SO & 12-6 since mid Nov.

Wow 4 shutouts? That’s crazy. I didn’t know that.

3 really. One game he let in a terrible goal from a sharp angle with about 2 mins left to play because he didnt hug the post enough.

I watched that… shitty goal

Ah yes, the ol’ “basically a shutout except for that terrible goal he let in” shutout. A classic. I’m surprised my fantasy hockey league doesn’t have a stat column for that. ;)

See thats been the problem recently I guess. With the past three season series for the Leafs being 3-2-1, 4-2-0, and 4-1-1. The Leafs just have to get back to what used to get them in the playoffs: being beat up by the Sens.

I mean theres a clear correlation. In their worst years since the lockout the records were 4-1-1 and 4-2-0.

Not exactly

Didn’t we beat the Leafs like 8-0, 8-2 every game in 05-06 and 06-07? ;)

True, but the Leafs came within a few points of the playoffs those years (one year missed by 1 point I believe). So give or take a game and they were in the playoffs. You could say if you like honking your horn that the Sens kept them out of the playoffs with those loses (but really its any loss)

True story, my first Leaf game was the 8-0 loss to the Sens.

That I attended that is.

Should go watch more games in Ottawa, seems like the thing to do as a Leaf fan ;)

I go to pretty much Sens/Leafs game in Toronto and the Sens have more than they lost when I go.

I’ve been to three in Ottawa and Leafs won 2 of the 3. I think the first one was 5-0 Toronto by the 2nd period.

Also, could Chara have picked a more evil team?

Jeez. He got all of Ottawa’s enemies lined right up. Throw Pronger and Heatley on there too, and I’m pretty sure you would have everyone we hate.

Michalek and Alfie

What on earth is going on between alfie and michalek? that just seems really odd to me-to grab two or your teamates quickly and then not caer to grab him until later..WEIRD MAN..NO big deal you say-well I say -weird man. Those guys are teammates…
