Game 49: Ottawa Senators @ San Jose Sharks

Ottawa Senators at San Jose Sharks, Jan 19, 2012 10:30 PM EST

Please note: Unfortunately, due to legal concerns, posting or advertising links to unregulated online streams of this game is not allowed. Any links posted will be deleted.

A late one tonight, so a cookie to those of you that stay up until 1 a.m. for the end of this game. The Senators will start a four game swing through western America in San Jose tonight. The big news of the day is that Mark Borowiecki will make his NHL debut. That is the only change, with Craig Anderson starting again. The forward lines remain the same as well, here they are from Ian Mendes.

Colin Greening - Jason Spezza - Milan Michalek
Chris Phillips - Mark Borowiecki

Craig Anderson (starter)

More after the jump.

Star-divide

Here are something to look out for tonight:

  • Borowiecki debut: First NHL game for Borowiecki, how will he fare? It will be interesting to note how much ice time he gets and whether he sees any penalty kill time in his first game.
  • Tired team: The Senators may be winning, but they are not playing well. Having played on back-to-back nights, and then having only one day off before a game in the pacific time zone, the Senators might not have their skating legs tonight.
  • Michalek back to San Jose: This will be Milan Michalek's second game back in San Jose since his trade. He scored two goals in a loss the last time, can he repeat the scoring feat?
  • Jumping in the standings: As of the time of writing, both Boston and Philadelphia are losing. Ottawa can pass both clubs with a win should scores hold.
  • Craig Anderson: How long can he keep this up? The man has been unreal for about three weeks.

This is a misconception

The U.S. government does not have the authority to shut down sites on servers not hosted in the U.S. SOPA and PIPA would require ISPs to block any site deemed to be illegal, and require web sites to police themselves for content.

It’s censorship, but the sites will still be out there.

Crazy Ottawa connections for the All-Star Game

Obviously the 4 voted in, Chara, Hossa, Elliott, but add Couture who played for the 67s and Claude Julien, who’s from the area I believe.

Who’s the other coach? It’d be great if it was Vigneault, not just for the Bruins/Canucks rivalry, but because it’d be great to have him around for Ottawa’s 20th anniversary.

I really don't know how anyone can be unhappy with Konopka this year.

He’s been good in the faceoff circle, he’s added grit and heart to the team, he’s funny in interviews, and his sister sings really well.

And fighting. I do love a good fight.

You're just like my friend who is a Canucks fan.

Only concentrating on what can be quantified on the scoresheet, not looking at what’s inside a man’s heart. I watched too many talented Ottawa teams lose to gritty Leafs squads to not believe in grit and heart (and lucky fucking goaltending).

That's my point

If a player’s grit is valuable, it shows up in possession time, shots, etc.

Can't stand him.

What does he do?

He drops the gloves for no reason at all, often killing momentum, and he wins a few faceoffs. And now we have to listen to his sister sing. It’s like we signed cousin Alfred because he has local ties but actually doesn’s add anything to the team, blech.

We’re an unstoppable juggernaut of Sensiness though, so I’ll allow it.

Apple's high-end video compression

Small file size for big quality that’s usable for editing and effects.

I’m taking this version, chopping it up, and adding some effects. Then making another version of it, and converting it into a DVD.

Gas Snake - Silver Seven

by Ryan Classic on Jan 20, 2012 12:52 AM EST up reply actions

Last I remember was mainly h.264

Back when I edited I was sourcing off of Betacam for the most part… the big houses used D1 and D3… so many formats have come out for digital it was hard to keep track.

Hope the premiere goes well for ya…

by Audioscapist on Jan 20, 2012 12:55 AM EST up reply actions

h.264 is pretty common

But it’s highly compressed. Can’t do much with it. So it’s used for the final product. An h.264 is one of the final outputs for this project, but we try not to use it for editing. Emphasis on try.

Actually I think the Cowboys are the Leafs of the NFL. Pats actually win stuff.

by modsuperstar on Jan 20, 2012 1:04 AM EST up reply actions

Since the Packers lost, I pretty much can't watch football.

I can’t cheer for the Patriots because I just can’t. I can’t do it.
I can’t cheer for the Giants because fuck the Giants!
And most of all, I can’t cheer for Alex Smith or Joe Flacco to win a Super Bowl.

I think what I’m cheering for most is a Patriots-Giants Super Bowl and then an asteroid obliterates Lucas Oil Stadium.

LOL at Rodgers being better than Brady. :)

I love soft players (especially Europeans) that play on the perimeter. Enigmas are awesome. Grit and heart-and-soul are red flags.

Smith isn’t as bad as he’s been made out to be. Dude has talent, he just never had the organizational stability at co-ordinator.

I agree actually. Not that I watch much NFL.

Just trying my killer Brian Lee joke out.

Sharks crew calling Sens "contenders for the Cup"

…“based on their play so far, they can’t be counted out”…

That makes me nervous, and giggly. But mostly nervous.

I was thinking about this today.

I think Ottawa has enough playoff veterans that they’ll be able to stop the playoff rookies from getting too nervous in the face of sudden expectations.

I just don't want the Sens to suddenly believe they are deadline buyers

This is a “rebuilding year”. No reason to sacrifice long-term goals for short-term gains, when – let’s face it – this isn’t a Cup-contending team. Second round, if we’re good and a bit lucky.

by Brian Sullivan on Jan 20, 2012 1:03 AM EST up reply actions

They are buyers

They just can’t be rich buyers. Instead of looking for a brand new Porsche, they should look for a used Volkswagen or something like that.

Don't forget

A big group of the Senators young guys won the Calder Cup. It’s not the NHL, but they did “face adversity” and triumph, so they know how to win under pressure.

You live in the GTA, though...

Can you watch it on Sportsnet? Do you have some special deal worked out with Bell and Rogers or something?

Teach me your tricks…
