The Noon Number: Three

3 - The number of game-winning goals for each of Zack Smith and Bobby Butler, more than any other player on the Ottawa Senators.

Butler has only five goals this year, meaning Mr. Clutch has made the most of his limited production by winning games with 60 per cent of his goals. As a matter of fact, with just 53 shots so far this season, Butler has a 5.6 per cent game-winning-goal-shooting-percentage. Butler's game-winners have come against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, and Calgary Flames. He's also got one shootout-winning goal. In summary, Bobby: Shoot more.

Perhaps as surprising as Z. Smith's 12 goals this season is his number of game-winners. But he probably doesn't give a crap. Z. Smith's game-winners were against the Winnipeg Jets and Carolina Hurricanes on back-to-back nights and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Note: "Noon Number" is a new (hopefully) daily series of quick posts about interesting statistics related to the Ottawa Senators.

The Zackster

Love the Zackster. He has one less goal than Heatley.

"Casually" has one less goal than Heatley

Interesting to note that Z. Smith casually buried winners on back to back nights. I hadn’t realized.

i think Ron Wilson was "admiring" the same Zsmith highlights we were

Article on TSN about him breaking up the Kessel-Lupul line who he says are too soft defensively, on the ice for 2 of the Sens goals.

I honestly can’t get that awesome image out of my head of Zsmith just boucing Kessel to the ice off his shoulder – and casually would be an appropriate word there.

interesting related point about your noon number

given we’ve got 26 wins, that means the rest of our game-winners are pretty well spread around the team, which is nice.

According to nhl.com, the Sens only have 21 game winning goals in 26 wins

Does anybody know the reason for this discrepancy? I’m just curious.

It would seem that each game won would have a game winner…

I hate that they exclude goals scored in the shootout. My feeling is that they should award a goal to the player who scores the game winning goal. Then there would be no discrepancy.

I totally agree with this

Just call it an empty net goal so no one else’s stats are messed up.

Nice

Obviously this means MacLean should play Z. Smith and Bobby Butler, a lot, in the third period.

Off topic a tad, but out of curiosity...

How’s Joslin been for you guys? I’m curious, although I am a Sharks fan, because he was one of my faves when he was over here in SJ. Good Guy if you ever meet him in person too.
