Mark Borowiecki to make his NHL debut tonight

Mark Borowiecki (pronounced "Boar-vee-eff-ski"), who you might remember from such films as Borocop and Borocop 2: The Land Before Borocop, will play his first NHL game tonight when he steps into the lineup against the San Jose Sharks.

Borowiecki was a fifth round pick from Ottawa's stellar 2008 NHL Entry Draft, which has now had 2 players become regular NHLers (Erik Karlsson and Zack Smith), one make a brief NHL appearance (Patrick Wiercioch), and another join Borowiecki and the Senators on this roadtrip and is sure to play a game or two (Andre Petersson).

We profiled Borowiecki more extensively in Brian Sullivan's write-up from May 2010, and Borwiecki's come a long way since then. The 22-year old Kanata native completed three years with Clarkson University, serving as team captain in his final year, and was yet another contributor to Binghamton's 2011 Calder Cup winning team. He was voted by his peers as the hardest working player at this year's development camp, and was praised for his competitiveness and work ethic.

Star-divide

Borowiecki is a hard hitting defensive defenseman, perhaps best evidenced by his team photo. His best collegiate year saw him put up 19 points in 35 games, while he's currently sitting at 15 points in 41 in his first AHL season. He's in the line-up to provide strong defense and a physical presence, not dazzle us with his skill.

To be a fifth round pick from 2008 and already seeing NHL action is a huge accomplishment for Borowiecki. Let's hope his development continues at this accelerated rate, and hope for the best in his debut performance.

I thought it was BoroCop 2: Electric Boogaloo

Which was a poorly received attempt at reviving the franchise by introducing Petersson to North America, and covering the hijinks BoroCop and him got up to.

I decided to go against Electric Boogaloo only because it seems everything Pt. 2 is now “Electric Boogaloo.”

Judging by the title, it’s both a sequel and a prequel!

Borocop

I attended high school with Borocop and know him quite well. Great Kanata guy with a lot of grit and determination. He was always the hardest worker in the gym and i’m glad it’s paying off for him. He deserves this chance and i’m sure he’ll surprise everyone with how quick he’ll learn the game at the NHL level. Can’t wait for tonight!!!

Wait, is your name really Wesley Snipes?

Liz Lemon: No, I wanted to tell you to your face that I know that I can do better than you. And I’m never going to be Mrs. Snipes. Hang on, is your name Wesley Snipes? That is insane.

Wesley Snipes: It’s insane that the actor Wesley Snipes has that name. If you saw a picture of him and a picture of me and you were asked who should be named Wesley Snipes, you’d pick the pale Englishman every time. Every time, Liz! Frankly, you should be having this conversation with him!

Amazing!!

We go from, what looks to be 2-3 years of future frustration with no real studs in the System- 1 Draft later,,, and we are Stacked!! With all kinds of talent waiting to jump up and contribute to this team.. Honestly if we all look back a few years and think of all the arm chair QB’s (sens fans) calling for Murrays head,, gotta give the guy props,, Heatley trade was way way better than anyone expected, Kuba, Gonchar both are playing the way they should, Spezza becoming a 2 way player,,even the Turris trade was questioned.. This team is going to be sick in 2 years,,,We are going to be so deep with talent

I think BM is right on at this point

He is looking to make an addition to the team – but the tank is full now. He would be a fool to risk anything at this point – unless it is a smart offer he cant refuse. He tried with Columbus, he succeeded with Phoenix. If we could make a couple more deals like those, we could come out ahead without losing anything, and maintain a reasonable postion in the draft.

I am confident that we can finish the year and head into the playoffs with the capable players we have, and the supporting resources that we can draw from. There is still a lot of intert latent talent on this team, and our long term depth is promising.

Heres hoping Borocop can prove himself to be one more of our emerging indispensible assets. If we can replace our departing players with talent we currently have, then there is no pressure to take risks. We can be patient and add those perfect pieces on our terms.

I am hoping this proves to be the case.

As a Clarkson fan, I’m really excited to see Boro getting a crack at the NHL. He was probably Clarkson’s best player in his 3 years but was unfortunate enough to be in Potsdam for the worst 3-year span in Clarkson hockey history. Despite the poor play from the rest of the team, Boro was always fun to watch in the college game. Hopefully he continues to excel and Sens fans can enjoy him just as much as Clarkson fans did.

CCT, CBJ, SU, NYM, Bills Fan. It can be depressing.

Good for him

A pretty amazing story, really. I remember reading that he was close to quitting hockey for a time, but stuck with it.

Good thing he did.
