Alfredsson to play in Operation: Hat Trick Hurricane Sandy relief game

Marc DesRosiers-US PRESSWIRE

Rosters have been released for the Operation: Hat Trick charity game taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey to benefit those affected by Hurricane Sandy, and there's a familiar name on Team New York: Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson.

Although Daniel Alfredsson wasn't able to follow his Ottawa Senators teammates to Northern Canada for the Northern Lights Dream Tour, he will be taking part in a charity game a little closer to home.

The Sens captain is expected to play on Team New York during the Operation: Hat Trick game taking place in Atlantic City, New Jersey this Saturday night. The game, organized primarily by Brad Richards and Scott Hartnell, is already sold out, and all proceeds will go to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

According to the New York Times, here are the full lineups:

Team New York

Forwards Brad Richards, Rangers; Bobby Ryan, Ducks; Corey Perry, Ducks; Daniel Alfredsson, Senators; James Neal, Penguins; Ville Leino, Sabres; Brian Boyle, Rangers; Taylor Pyatt, Rangers; Jeff Halpern, Rangers; Arron Asham, Rangers; Matt Martin, Islanders.

Defensemen Dan Girardi, Rangers; Marc Staal, Rangers; Steve Eminger, Rangers; Mike Komisarek, Maple Leafs.

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, Rangers.

Team New Jersey/Philadelphia

Forwards Scott Hartnell, Flyers; Steven Stamkos, Lightning; David Clarkson, Devils; James van Riemsdyk, Maple Leafs; Simon Gagne, Flyers; Jody Shelley, Flyers; Wayne Simmonds, Flyers; Justin Williams, Kings; Daniel Carcillo, Blackhawks; Steve Downie, Avalanche.

Defensemen Andy Greene, Devils; Kimmo Timonen, Flyers; Braydon Coburn, Flyers; P..K. Subban, Canadiens; John Carlson, Capitals.

Goaltender Martin Brodeur, Devils.

So in sum, although the NHL is expected to cancel the All-Star Game in the near future, there's still going to be pretty star-studded event taking place this year. (There's no word on whether or not Alfie's going to exact revenge on Boyle for roughing up Erik Karlsson in the playoffs last year.)

It's great that Alfredsson is going to donate some of his time to such a worthy cause, but here's a sobering thought: Thanks to the lockout, this event may be the closest the Ottawa Senators captain comes to NHL action before he retires from the game.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
