The first full photo of the Ottawa Senators heritage jersey. Apparently, someone at the Buffalo Sabres team store put it on the shelf a little early. (H/T to Icethetics for the scoop)

They kinda look like the Hawks winter classic jerseys. Still, they’re pretty solid.

YAY!

That looks like actual white!

Anyone told our marketing department yet?

I can just imagine the flailing going on, because this was supposed to be kept until Oct. 1st

Do they even have any options?

The way I see it, they either release early or hope this doesn’t hit the MSM. I’m betting on the latter.

Maybe it's part of a cunning plan to boost lagging heritage jersey sales

I mean, who on earth other than your own team sells other team’s jerseys??

That better be a cheap replica because that looks awful. I don’t like how the jersey itself looks shiny.

And It's an XL

Would explain why it looks a bit distorted

by Smiles on Sep 18, 2011 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree

The shiny material is probably the one thing I didn’t like. Hoping it’s just the picture or cheap stuff. Love the jersey though

Replica

Looks like the shoulder crests are a sort of plastic decal, rather than an embroidered patch—which is the same thing the current jerseys have on the replicas. The pro jerseys should, one would assume, have embroidered patches.

by Peter Raaymakers on Sep 18, 2011 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

That’s my hope. That thing looks like those crappy jerseys you can buy at Canadian Tire.

by modsuperstar on Sep 18, 2011 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

My favourite jerseys are still the red and the black ones they wore from early last decade till 2007.

by Sports Fan! on Sep 18, 2011 10:46 AM EDT reply actions

I know a lot of people have the sentiment that the 2D logo is the classic jersey, just that asymmetrical red and black jersey is what I would call the Sens defining jersey. It seemed to be the jersey they had most of their successes in, a Cup final appearance, Presidents Trophy, Conferences finals, making the playoffs every year they wore it. I’d be interested in seeing that design reinterpreted with the modern jersey design and logo.

The article mentions that the Sens had been working with a fan on this

I’m guessing Jacob Barrette’s SNES-reaction design paid off?

Agreed.

That shoulder shield looks like crap. I also dislike the Senateurs d’Ottawa. Had is been just the centurion, I would have been down.

I still think I’mma buy a red Alfie one though.

by The Tif on Sep 19, 2011 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Keep in mind it is a replica

It isn’t the actual hockey sweater. I think the actual sweater will look really good everything should be embroidered patches.

I don’t mind the shoulder patch. Especially because it pays tribute to the patch the Senators used to wear the year after they won the championship. Clearly it couldn’t say ‘world champions’. Though script instead of block lettering would have looked better.

by havey03 on Sep 19, 2011 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

It should say World Champions, we beat those mother fuckers from Dawson City like it ain’t no thang.

so... a poll...

G’day Gents and ladies,
Im buying one of these. For those of you that don’t know, if you pre order one, you also get a toque, scarf, and voucher for 2 tix to the oct 13th game vs Colorado. My question: whose name should be on it? Alfie is a no brained, but what of Spezza? Karlsson? Rundblad? Im taking votes.

PRAISE ALFIE!!!!

by High Priest of Alfie on Sep 19, 2011 12:08 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Names (in order of preference):

Alfie
Spezza
Karlsson
Rundblad/Cowen
Zibanejad

I’d go with Karlsson myself – assuming you don’t want Alfie.

by The Tif on Sep 19, 2011 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh but I do want Alfie

Just seems kinda cliche, no?

Okay...

So, my friends are telling me I should put my name on it. And no, I’m not lying, my last name is Toogood. Is it still cliche?

If you are not a member of the Senators, you should not put your name on it

That’s how I feel. I’m against names in general.

I don't like personal names on jerseys.

I agree with Mark on this one. Just seems … wrong.

Spezza for sure.

I say you stick with Alfie

Given that it is a ‘Heritage Jersey’, in 5, 10, 20 or 50 years (assuming the moths don’t get it) whose name would you want on it.
As of now, Alfie is the most important Senator over the last 20 years. Seems appropriate to me, given what he’s meant to the club, to have his name on it.

Karlsson

That is all.

An Ottawa Senators supporter in Toronto, Ontario. I am cool like that.
