Silver Seven Sens Outing: Dany Heatley Edition

There's been some interest in organizing another group outing next season, particularly since our home opener will now be against Ottawa Senators supervillain Dany Heatley. I realize that it's still early to be making plans for October, but depending on the size of our potential group we may need to move on this soon, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling.

I've got a contact in the organization who's helped me out with group tickets before, and here is what I can tell you: larger blocks of tickets always need to be purchased early to ensure that we can all sit together, and we need a minimum of 20 people to get a group ticket discount. We also need to move early since Adnan nominated me to organize this, and I'm going regardless of whether it's through my own ticket package or with you guys!

I also brought up the possibility of a suite, if we have the numbers. I can get a 15% discount, although be warned that I have no idea whatsoever what the prices are. What I can tell you is that they range in size from 20 people to 150 (let's do it!) and there are suites in the club level, concourse, and gallery. Also, they come with a server and, I believe (but am not 100% sure since I've never been in one at the Palladium), bathroom - so no lines! Since I can't add a second poll in here, leave a comment if you are interested in a suite (SWEET!) and tell me what level. Once we have rough numbers and a preferred level, I'll get back to anyone who was interested with a quote.

***Update: Please scroll down to my novel of a comment for more information!***

So with no further ado, get voting - the poll closes on Sunday night!

I'd love to go!

Also, I’d be fine with a suite, but only if it were the cheapest, although I’m not sure what level that is.

It would be amazing if we were able, at least once, to have a Silver Seven suite.

I am in for any level/place in the building!

The suite has the added bonus of letting me use all of my season ticket holder benefits!

I had earmarked that one for a birthday greeting on the jumbo but now it says no more are available even though they never told me there were limited quantities. Sad face.

Price dependent, pencil me in

I know the 400-level suites are usually the cheapest (although food and drinks are still outrageous), and yes they do have their own washrooms! Still, before committing to a suite, I’d obviously need to know the price.

If we get tickets for less than $50, I’ll be there.

by Peter Raaymakers on Jul 6, 2011 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

I don't think any tickets are under $50 after fees/taxes

Except the coca cola zone.

Coca Cola Zone it is!

Fine. I’m probably in anyway.

I can’t believe there aren’t tickets for less than $50. That’s crazy.

by Peter Raaymakers on Jul 6, 2011 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I am just guessing but

Didn’t we pay $65 for the last game we went to in the 300 level?

Granted it was the Leafs but still.

Coca Cola zone?

You guys can come find me at the intermission. I shouldn’t be sitting around that many kids!

I've got the game all wrong...

I initially thought this was the first installment in a series designed to ‘out’ hockey players.

Dany Heatley is a homosexual? What?

Well, I'll hopefully be at the game in my professional capacity.

I’ll get the DJ to play ‘appropriate music’ while the fans chant.

If the price isn't crazy I'm in for two

I’m in if the price isn’t too high, my girlfriend has never been to a game so I think this would be the perfect opportunity to do so.

by Mikeec67 on Jul 6, 2011 9:55 PM EDT reply actions

What date is that?

If it’s a weekend I can make the drive up from Kingston :)

by The Tif on Jul 6, 2011 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

Nope sadly it is Tuesday, October, 11

I was going to go to a Saturday game, but then when Heatley got traded, I felt I should take a day off and take a trip!

Also, I will be going to the game in Toronto on October 8, so I will be at back-to-back games. :D

I’d love to join and a suite sounds great. I’d prefer on the slightly cheaper end of the spectrum, but I’m in for anything.

But it is price dependent. I belong in the poor student category

by Misellati on Jul 6, 2011 10:44 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

I'm in for 3 people

Not going to set a price cap specifically, but we are also students and therefore will be limited by what is subjectively reasonable.

O Magnus....

by Irish_Human on Jul 6, 2011 11:27 PM EDT reply actions

It would mean a road trip...

But I’ll gladly take the day off and make the 5-hour drive for this one… price dependent, of course.

I’m always down for watching a game assuming I’m not slaving over some sort of school assignment. Are you a Queen’s student?

Oh, cool

I’m looking forward to it. Seems like a respected school, everyone I talk to speaks highly of it. Did you find a job easily / did it prepare you well? Regardless, I like the town and the location. I’ll finally be within reasonable driving distance to sens games. Haha I won’t even lie, that was actually a part of my decision making process.

by bacraswell on Jul 13, 2011 11:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I found that it prepared me well

Although the thing with law school is that it doesn’t really prepare you to do lawyer work, it just teaches you a way of thinking etc. But Queen’s was a nice balance of academic and extracurriculars with a really good social side.

Plus it’s totally driveable for games – my first year as a season ticket holder was when I was in school and some friends and I used to drive down, see a game and come back.

Not a Kingstonian...

I’m actually from Carleton Place (Home of Sean Donovan, bitches!) but I live in enemy territory (Leaf Land) right now.

This game would definitely be worth the roadtrip, though.

And I know what you guys mean… I feel like I’m in real danger anytime I go watch a Leaf vs. Sens game at a bar. Maybe I shouldn’t wear the Alfie jersey, but screw ‘em… I’m proud!

I'm not scared...

Just tensed up, waiting for violence. I’ve worn my Sens jersey to the ACC before… that doesn’t bother me, because I’m pretty sure I could hold my own against an investment banker. However, wearing it to a scuzzy bar in Toronto, surrounded by drunken idiots is a little more intense.

Depends on price

Suite also depends on price, but I’d be willing to go a little higher for that over just regular seating.

I don’t believe the club level suites have their own bathroom. Not the smaller ones at least.

by B_T on Jul 7, 2011 10:39 AM EDT reply actions

K, so I'm hearing a lot of price-dependent yeses

In which case I’m guessing that a suite will be too expensive (but I’ll look into it and find out for sure), but a group discount might work. Last year when I organized a group outing to a Habs game (so before the price increase, but a gold game compared to what I can only assume will be a silver game at best), it was $63.50 each in the upper 300L or $83.50 in the lower 300L, so ours should be cheaper but that gives you all an idea. I seriously doubt we will be able to block off a group in the Coca Cola Zone since it’s small.

Also when I did that last year, I had to put a deposit down before the tickets went on sale to the general public to make sure that I’d have enough seats reserved – I doubt we’ll have to move quite that quickly for this game, but payment in full was due a minimum of 3 weeks before, and I’m not paying for your ticket unless you have paid me first!

I’ll put my email address in my profile on here – if you’re a definite yes or a firm maybe, send me an email and tell me 1) how many tickets you want, and 2) if there is an upper price limit past which you’re not interested.

Oh Captain, my Captain!

I’d love to join as well… if this group gets to be as large as the posts to date indicate, we could block off an entire section. It’d undoubtedly be the loudest, for sure. I would most likely bring 2 more along.
