Senators sign Alex Auld to $1M, one year deal

TSN is reporting that the Ottawa Senators signed former Sen Alex Auld to a one-year, $1M contract. Auld will be the back-up to Craig Anderson, giving Ottawa the baldest goaltending tandem in the NHL.

Auld had a solid year last season backing up Carey Price, as evident in his .914 save percentage. Auld was also good during his time in Ottawa where he was thrust into a starting role after Martin Gerber didn't meet expectations, posting a .911 during his 41 games in the nation's capital.

Auld is a great choice to back-up Anderson, and that's probably why Adnan and I both picked him to be signed by the Senators in our free agent preview. He's a big guy who fills up the net, he's familiar with the players in Ottawa's dressing room, and he knows his role as a back-up. He was, by all accounts, a good locker room presence during his time in Ottawa, and it's good to see him back with the club.

Barring injuries to starter Craig Anderson, Auld will probably only see action in around 20 games, and he'll hopefully bring back his golden mask for old time's sake.

What are your thoughts on the signing? Were you hoping for someone else?
