Stanley Cup Playoffs, day 52: B-Sens try to even things up

Mike Hoffman, seen here in NHL pre-season action, has been promoted to the first line as the Binghamton Senators try and get their offence back on track in game four of the AHL's Calder Cup Finals.

No NHL tonight, but there's more AHL Calder Cup Final action as the Binghamton Senators and Houston Aeros face off for game four of their series.

Next Game

Houston Aeros
@ Binghamton Senators

Wednesday, June 1, 2011, 7:05 PM EDT
Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena

Complete Coverage >

Bingo made a few lineup changes to try to wake the team up, although the biggest one was due to injury: Roman Wick is out with an undisclosed ailment, and David Dziurzynski will take his place in the lineup. Mike Hoffman has been promoted to the top line to take the place of Zack Smith, who doesn't give a crap that he's been relegated to second-line duty. There aren't expected to be any lineup changes on defence, and you can be sure that Robin Lehner will be getting the start in the Senators' net.

The game is once again on Sportsnet Sens in Ottawa, so join us here as we watch with bated breath hoping the B-Sens can claw back into the series.

My only suggestion:

“Z, I’mma roll you with Potulny and Keller for this one.”

Kleinendorst needs a bit more street to his twang.

WOO!

I have that in white!

The only red jerseys I have are Volchenkov (sniff sniff) and Karlsson. My previous favourite defenceman and my current favourite defenceman. :D

LOCKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2-0 Binghamton! Is the offense finally back?

$3600 for a 50/50 is pretty impressive, especially for an AHL game.

One of the Sens games this season...I think Atlanta

The 50/50 was like $200. Ha!

As in rough? Or bad quality?

The hockey is not clean

Turnovers galore, unstructured play, pucks pouncing and rolling everywhere…

by Peter Raaymakers on Jun 3, 2011 8:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Sorry, the hockey is not good

I don’t mean “not clean” as in “undisciplined”, I mean that it’s not very composed.

I can imagine

This is why I can’t watch junior hockey either.

No wonder Lehner does so well!

Potulny

Does anyone remember with the Campoli/Potulny deal about a conditional pick if the Sens sign him? I know I heard a couple stipulations speculated on deadline day but don’t know what the conditional bit was about.

by modsuperstar on Jun 3, 2011 8:45 PM EDT reply actions

That was the part I was unclear on, whether it was if he played in Ottawa last season, or whether it was on whether they resigned him.

by modsuperstar on Jun 3, 2011 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

If we re-sign Potulny

Chicago gets our 7th rounder this year.

Well worth it I would say

I would guess a 7th rounder is unlikely to even be a good AHL player.

by Adnan on Jun 3, 2011 8:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Well it’s a good thing we got a 7th rounder for Kovy then:)

by modsuperstar on Jun 3, 2011 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

In NHL talk

Chicago will receive the pick if Potulny spends at least one day on Ottawa’s roster during the 2011–12 NHL season.

by Alexander Calloway on Jun 3, 2011 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh so if he stays in the AHL the whole year

They get nothing?

And I just realised, would have to be 2012 pick then.

I think it depends on a contract extension

Your caveat means that if Ottawa were to trade for him again next year they’d give up the draft pick, when in reality it’s purely dependent on him re-signing with the Senators organization.

by Peter Raaymakers on Jun 4, 2011 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

It’s a small price to pay given the production he’s shown for us

5 goals allowed in 4 games in the finals! Could have been another sweep!

He's got the Butterfield locked up at this point

Rallied his team from down 3-1, three shutouts, come one.

It's going to be interesting to see him next season

Either he’s going to win the Calder Cup or come very close.

Either way, it might be tough for him to motivate himself for a game in I don’t know…Adirondack or wherever, having done already so much. I hope he doesn’t have a let down season.

Uhh
Either he’s going to win the Calder Cup or come very close.

Well obviously. He’s the starter in the finals heading into game 5 all tied up…. Clearly he’s going to get close if he doesn’t win.

Oh Captain, my Captain!

by Adnan on Jun 3, 2011 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions

For sure

I suspect there’s going to be plenty of adversity for him next year, though. It’s not like he was outstanding in the AHL last year. Hopefully, Murray will remind him that he hasn’t done shit in the regular season, and keep him focused on that goal before he begins his hunt for Anderson.

The really frightening thing is that if Anderson falters or gets injured, there’s going to be calls for Lehner too quickly.

I just want Lehner to get games

I don’t mind him playing a few games in the NHL but, what I absolutely don’t want is him sitting on the bench in the NHL for 3 weeks again.

by Adnan on Jun 3, 2011 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm in total agreement

I feel like his playoff run here has shown how crucial regular play is to his development at this point in his career.

by Mark Parisi on Jun 3, 2011 10:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Plenty of motivation

An NHL roster spot is always going to be motivation for him. That’s part of what I like about the Anderson signing: Lehner is not going to get anything handed to him. Even if he manages to lead the team to the championship this season (a task which there is still a long road ahead), he’s still extremely unlikely to be the starter next year. So he’s got to keep plugging away at it.

by Peter Raaymakers on Jun 4, 2011 12:42 AM EDT up reply actions

Woo Bingo!

Man, tomorrow’s going to be rough after the way tonight’s game ended.
