With their second pick in the sixth round, acquired in the Jarkko Ruutu trade, the Ottawa Senators selected Max McCormick from Sioux City of the USHL. McCormick is 5'11" and 174 pounds and is a long term project player. Still, he did display some offensive skills with 21 goals, 21 assists for 42 points along with 102 penalty minutes in 55 games last season. Along with the Senators other sixth round selection, Darren Kramer with 306 penalty minutes in 68 games, the Senators picked a couple of players who don't often hesitate to drop the gloves.
He will start playing at Ohio State starting from next season. This is how he described himself to the Green Pay Press Gazette:
"My overall smarts of the game and sense of the game really got a lot better this year," McCormick said. "It's a really competitive league because everyone is trying to move on. The players are trying to move on, the coaches are trying to move on, even the refs are trying to move on. It's really competitive and makes it a lot of fun, and it improved my game a lot."
McCormick was ranked 161st among North Americans in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings. A quick google search of him will result in a few links to his fights, so those of you enjoy that aspects will definitely love the sixth round.
