Silver Nuggets: Senators hire Paul Maclean as coach; AHL to NHL transition
The Boston Bruins forced a game seven tomorrow night in Vancouver after a 5-2 win last night in Boston. The Canucks have won their three games by one goal each, and have lost their three games by 7, 4 and 3 goals. Still, tomorrow night, they will get a chance to win a Stanley Cup with a home win. Having won six in a row at home, the Canucks still have to be considered the favourites.
Meanwhile, the Senators are expected to hold a press conference at 11 a.m. to officially announce Paul Maclean as the coach. By the time this is posted, it will already have happened. Sadly, I have to continue to go condo hunting during my lunch hour so it cannot be updated.
Also note, Adnan nuggets are inferior to Peter nuggets in lack of non-Sens links, I readily admit it!
Here are today's links:
General Sens News
- With Paul Maclean being the next coach, Bruce Garrioch feels that Maclean's biggest task will be to get Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson to buy into the program, because Spezza was "inconsistent" and Karlsson "took a step back". I would have rated those two Ottawa's best players last season. (Ottawa Sun)
- Will everything be awesome for Ottawa because Binghamton won the Calder Cup? Here is a look at translating AHL success to the NHL level. For example, the
Atlanta ThrashersWinnipegJetsfranchise won both the AHL and ECHL titles in 2001-2002 and look how that turned out. Of course, Binghamton had a lot of young players helping them win, I am not sure what Atlanta's affiliate situation was. Fun fact by the way, Atlanta'sAHLECHL club was called the Greenville Grrrowl. Yes, that is really three R's. (Ottawa Citizen) - There aren't too many great unrestricted free agents, but there are some enticing restricted free agents. Senshot looks at some of the higher end ones. (Senshot)
- Craig Anderson is going to start racing. We always knew he loved cars because of his mask, but am I the only one who feels uneasy about this? (Detroit Free Press)
More after the jump.
General Hockey News
- Colorado based author Kim Washburn writes Defender of Faith: The Mike Fisher Story. It tells the story of Fisher 's NHL career with an emphasis on the role of God in Fisher's life. (Calgary Herald)
- Mason Raymond who injured himself in Vancouver's loss last night, will be out four-to-six months. (TSN)
- Roberto Luongo is confident he will bounce back tomorrow. I would agree with him, he's been excellent at home. (TSN)

Adnan nuggets are inferior to Peter nuggets
Guys! This is a family blog! Please keep your nuggets to yourself.
Does this mean I can't post pictures of Christina Hendricks bent over in tight red dress?
Probably for best since I read this at work.

Also? Defender of Faith: The Mike Fisher Story?
Should have been Forward of Faith. He doesn’t play defence. Silly author.
He may not have been a defenceman...
…but I think he has played mostly as a defensive forward. The title probably doesn’t even have anything to do with his position and more to do with his “keeping the faith”.

Adnan, I don't think you're being fair to Garrioch
Let’s face it, Spezza only had 57 points last season. I mean, that leaves, like, 25 games where he had zero points! BOOM! MATH!
And Karlsson obviously took a step backwards. I mean, he was the last defenseman picked at the All-Star game. And as everyone from gym class knows, getting pick last means you aren’t good.

Karlsson > Kessel!
Even if defencemen had to be picked by a certain round!

Kessel clearly took a huge step back last year

You only come around when we publish your stuff now?

Raymond
I thought that was a particularly stupid hit by the Boston defenseman (Boychuk?). It was on par with the Rome hit in the category of “why do that when you don’t need to?” I am not surprised that Raymond is for a while, I thought he might even snap his spine given the angle. Sure the angle was weird, blah, blah, blah. I just don’t see any excuse for completing the hit when the opponent was clearly in a compromised position. I thought Boychuk(?) should have been thrown out of the game regardless of the hit’s outcome. Dumb, dumb, dumb hit.
Doubt it
I don’t think we’ll see any moves until after the draft.

WARNING: Hairsplitting ahead.
Weren’t the Grrrowl an ECHL team?
No, actually I can't get enough of Spezza's nerdy laugh.
This may explain why the Toronto Star is so cranky today.
They jumped the gun a little. :D
A Goal Horn Haiku
Hoooonk hoooonk honk honk hooooonk
That's the sound the train horn makes
Suck it, Toronto
While awesome, I bet they have something similar ready for both teams for game 7
Just like how newspapers have obituaries ready to go just in case.

True. But they employed it in game 6.
Whoops!

Right, but they would have had it ready for Boston if they were up 3-2 is what I'm saying

Oh, understood.
Someone just linked the wrong header. Or there’s a secret Vancouver fan working in the Toronto Star internet team. :D

Ummmm
I don’t get it and I’m guessing it won’t be funny if someone has to explain it to me. Damn it!
I'm guessing it's been changed (again?)
Because I assume you understand “The newest coach of the Senators is on the left!”…
Oh Captain, my Captain!
Yeah he meant the blog's tagline I think, not my picture's caption
Well, I think anyway. Because my option was dull and boring.
