No rest for the weary, I guess. Just hours after signing a three-year contract extension with the team, Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray announced the signing of NCAA college prospect Pat Cannone to a one-year entry-level contract.
Cannone's fourth season at Miami University in Ohio ended when his top-seeded Redhawks team was upset by the University of New Hampshire in the first round of the Northeast Regional of the NCAA Tournament. In his college career, Cannone scored 133P (45G and 88A) in 166GP. At 24 years old, he's an older prospect, and will finish out the season in Binghamton on a professional try-out contract (basically, if I understand correctly, that means his one-year contract will not come into effect until next season).
Another kid in the Senators system. He might never turn into an NHL player, but the added depth will increase competition at all levels of the Senators' system--the ECHL, AHL, and NHL--and (hopefully) make everyone that much more prepared to play at whatever level they're assigned.
