Looks like Jason Spezza's late-season surge has paid off, as the centreman will be heading to play for Team Canada at the 2011 IIHF World Championships in Slovakia
This will be Spezza's third appearance in the World Championships, after winning silver medals in both 2008 and 2009. He's got 14P (8G, 6A) in 18GP at the world championships. The rest of the lineup will be released next week, but Spezza may very well line up at centre on a line with Rick Nash, which could be a very potent duo.
He's also played for Canada in the World Junior Championships three times, winning one silver (2002) and two bronze medals (2000 and 2001). In 21 WJC games, Spezza scored three goals and nine assists.
As far as I know, Spezza will be joined by Ryan Shannon (USA) and Roman Wick (SUI) at the World Championships (Craig Anderson and Nick Foligno have both declined invitations). No confirmation of which other Senators players will be heading to Slovakia.
