I'm probably not the first genius to think of this idea, but I definitely think that the people of Ottawa would embrace a 5$ increase in the price of every game ticket if it meant free parking at SBP for Sens games. I'm fairly certain that the extra money for the tickets would MORE than cover for the revenue lost from the parking, and the traffic would flow in SO much faster. On top of that, they could even create a few more entrances so that the ride out might be a little quicker too!
Some contributing factors working against this might be:
- No charge parking means too many cars would come, leaving the lots unable to handle such a capacity (thus the increase in traffic would reintroduce the traffic jams)
- Some sort of insurance issue to do with Scotiabank Place (I've never actually read the back of the parking stubs)
- People who take the bus might be like, w-t-f?
We're all aware that the biggest things the Sens fans have going against them is the BRUTAL trek out the Kanata. It's an age-old argument that if the arena were centralized we'd sell out every game and have a much more engaged fanbase. This is just one issue that adds to the ridiculousness of the Kanata Senators... Driving a ways out only to sit in a super congested parking lot for an hour. It sucks!
