Ottawa Senators prospect roundup: March 9, 2011

Binghamton Senators (AHL)

32-23-7, 71 Points, 5th East Division (1-1-0 during the week)
205 Goals for, 173 Goals against

Game 62: Binghamton 4, Norfolk 1 (March 6, 2011, Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena)
Binghamton was able to take advantage of a tired Norfolk team that has played three games in four days to win the game 4-1. Kaspars Daugavins came up big with two goals, and Andre Beniot recorded two assists. Barry Brust had another fantastic night, making 32 saves and got two minutes added to his PIM total with a roughing call in the third.

BSens Hero: Andre Benoit
Had two assists, and is now second on the Binghamton Senators roster for scoring among active players on the roster.

BSens Hero: Barry Brust
33 shots faced, 32 saves, and a .970 save percentage, with a roughing call. He has 30 PIMs for the year, which a pro career high for him (his second highest was back in 2007-08, when he was assessed with 24 while a member of the Houston Aeros).

BSens Hero: Kaspars Daugavins
Scored two goals, and has 12 points in his last nine games.

Game 63: Binghamton 1, Charlotte 2 (March 8, 2011, Time Warner Cable Arena)
Don't look now, but the B-Sens are only 1-3-1 in their last five games, and a loss to the Charlotte Checkers--one of the teams they're trying to catch up to in the standings--is a tough way to get things going.

BSens Hero: Ryan Keller
Despite the loss, Keller showed why he's the leader in Binghamton on Tuesday. He scored the team's only goal, and fired seven shots on goal.

BSens Killer: Justin Pogge
The BSens fired 39 shots at Pogge in the Charlotte net, but he stopped all but one. He kept Bingo at bay until Ottawa native Jon Matsumoto scored with just 26 seconds left in the game to give his team the win.

Elmira Jackals (ECHL)

27-24-6, 61 Points, 2nd Atlantic Division (2-1-0 during the week)
214 Goals for, 212 Goals against

Game 53: Elmira 5, Wheeling 2 (Mar. 2, 2011, First Arena)
The Jackals extend the winning streak to four games with three third period goals to break a 2-2 tie. This was the first time the Jackals have won four-straight games, and have won three consecutive contests with tie-breaking goals in the third period.

************

Game 54: Greenville 5, Elmira 3 (Mar. 5, 2011, BI-LO Center)
The Jackals allowed three period goals after holding a 2-2 tie (deja vu almost), but Tristin Llewellyn scored his first professional goal with only seven seconds left to make it a two-goal contest.

************

Game 55: Elmira 6, Greenville 5 (Mar. 6, 2011, BI-LO Center)
The Jackals score two short-handed goals, and on the same penalty (!!!!!) in the third to win the game 6-5. Yannick Tifu had a hat trick while shorthanded and gave the Jackals their only lead of the night--the only one they'd need.
